Help, I think I'm stuck
Not sure I can find the tranny filler plug.
1948 Super Six, with a 1954 308, so I have any of 2 trannys on it, but I think the trans is a 48.
Looking at the StepDown Manual, Page 8-2 and 8-3 (Figure 1).
44 on Fig 1 points to the drain plug, but on the listing, it says Drain Plug 43. On the car, 44 is clearly the drain plug.
48 is the Filler Plug on both the drawing and listing. It appears just above the speedo cable. When I look (or feel under the floor) on the car, there is indeed a bolt above the speedo, but it seems kind of small, and holds a little retainer for the speedo. Is this really the filler?
The drain is a 4 sided bolt, plug, and indeed it drains.
The "filler" is a 6 sided, smaller bolt, and doesn't really look like a plug.
So where the heck is the filler plug? :-) ... or do I have to flip the car over and fill from the drain?

This manual has an off by one error on the transmission.
Item 49 is clearly a filler plug. 48 is the speedo screw.
I think it's on the passanger side, high on the trans pan. Will go out and see.

you are looking at the correct place now.
my manual has penciled in corrections. 1-9 are correct. there should be no 10 what is listed as 10 is 11; as 11 is 12 and so on until 82 which is correct0 -
Hudson filler plugs are 4 sided, half-way up on the passenger side.
One for the tranny and another (and another drain plug) if you have overdrive.
Good way to fill them is with an oil can with a pump on it filled with gear oil. When it runs out, it's full. Same with the rear end.0 -
Found it! Passanger side, near the back of the trans. Looks just like the drain plug. The manual numbering is wrong, as stated above.
Flushed the trans with kerosene, filled it with 90w, and now it shifts smoothly thru all gears.
Thanks;

Car guys in the know love that kerosene. Heck, way before any of our time, they used to add it to certain"tonics."0
