Neutral safety switch
I found my neutral safety switch in a box with a bunch of other electrical parts. Can anyone give me a picture, or a very good description, of where this switch goes and how it is hooked up for a 52 or 53 dual range hydromatic. The switch is not shown in the mechanical procedures manual.
From the amount of crud on the switch I assume it goes on the shifter shaft in the engine compartment. Do I need to pull the shifter column and steering shaft off the steering box to install the safety switch?
There are four electrical terminals on the switch. two using eye rings which have cut off wires on them, and two studs. I assume it is the ring terminals that interrupt the signal from the ignition switch and starter solenoid
I purchased this car after it had been dismantled and the restoration started, One thing I have learned is that you can not have too many pictures, notes, and labels. And paper masking tape for labels with pencil writing creates a whole new meaning to puzzels.

If I remember correctly, the switch bolts on, under the hood (bracket should be part of switch housing) and connects to linkage via a small bell crank. The Hydramatic manual has a little blurb on the switch. The two spare terminals would have been for back-up lights.0

The neutral safety switch for a stepdown hydromatic attaches with one bolt to the end of the gear shift rod in the lower portion of the steering column.There are two screws that you should connect to form the circuit by which the switch acts as a safety and cannot start with the car being in gear.The two pins that adjoin the switch are for the backup light system. These make contact when the car goes in reverse. Most cars don't have this feature but this is where they hook up if you ever want to put one in. If you have a shop manual look in the section under 'hydromatic transmission " right near the area of adjusting transmission bands. In the 51 manual it's in section 11-38. good luck.0

Thanks. I found the picture in the Hydramatic Manual, I missed it before. It was what I needed.
