Can anyone help with me with this? What regional flights are available, preferably on sunday July 22 and to return sunday July 29., to and from Chicago O Hare and Ft. Wayne International? I'm trying to see if its feasible to attend the National both timewise and costeise. Thank You Lou Cote

  • Lou,

    I'll meet you at O'Hare. You can put me in your luggage (will have to be generously sized) and take me along. I'll pay any overweight luggage charges. :D

    Looks to me like you are looking in the $300 to $400 range.

    Gimme a call if you want info,,,

  • Thanks, Tom and Nick, by the looks of it it will cost me more to fly from Chicago to Ft. Wayne than it will to fly in from Seattle. Only $310.80 !!! Go figure these airline prices. A little quick figuring hotel, if found at $90, $630.00 airfare $750.00 , taxi ride from airport, meals etc;$300.00, Meet costs $60.00 equals$1740.00. I guess I'm going to have to win the lotto to make this trip. Hudsonly Lou Cote

    For what it's worth, you can catch a train from Chicago at about 7 in the evening, that drops you off in Waterloo (about 5 miles from Auburn) at 10:45 in the evening. Should be a fraction of the airfare. You can probably catch a taxi into Auburn or (if you have HET friends attending the National) hitch a Hudson ride.

    As far as hotel expenses, do as the rest of us cheapskates do -- share a room with one, two or more Hudsonites. Brings the cost down wonderfully!

    Yeah Lou, why not just fly into Chicago, have a local Chicago-Milwaukee chapter member meet you and just drive with them to the National ?
  • OK....let's re-think these numbers

    1. Round Trip Seattle to Chicago = $311

    2. Mooch a ride to Ft Wayne from HET Member =$0

    3. Sleep in the Back Seat of His Car =$0

    4. Corndogs, Chips and Pop for the Week= $30

    5. Meet Costs (?) what ever that is = $60

    TOTAL = $401.00

    Not bad fer a weeks entertainment
  • Aaron if that could be put toghther that would make it possible to go. Current plan calls for sunday afternoon 4:30 arrival Chicago, returning flights leave sunday July 29 at 3:35 or 5:30. I am somewhat flexable on arrival date, monday is possible also. I wuold really like to see the museums and the Hostetler collections. Also arrival and departure times are PM. thanks Lou Cote

    lou, I live in an area like auburn. a regional airport close-by and major airports 3 hrs in every direction, looking at all the options for airports and airlines is your best bet. When i travel, I shop 5 airports to work out cost.
    So consider detroit, Indy, and columbus if you are going to hitch a ride, bus or train. Look at flights Seattle to Ft Wayne, where flying from seattle to chicago and then from chicago to ftwayne is 700; booking a flight from seattle to ft wayne (connecting in cleaveland) for 474. not sure if that puts it into your budget, but when i saw your post i though you needed to be in chicago, but it looks as though you were just looking for a connection.
