Yep, this was discussed recentyly on the forum after I discovered a pic (I think it may be your bottom left) of dashes being pulled from the press. It's amazing that they didn't get marked during the process. BTW, it looks like you car is coming along nicely. Seems like you have a nice assortment of buildings on your property in which to do your work.0

thanks, the 46 is finally all painted, not yet put together. i have all the stainless to buff and a bunch of chrome to re-do. we've been working on the new interior this weekend. its a terribly lenghty project all told. its been 1-1/2 years so far and i doubt it'll be done by next fall. maybe in the spring. i actually gave this to my 17 year old thats in some of the pix's. he's been spending as much time on it as allowed but next fall he will be going to college and living on campus so im afraid progress will halt on it. i have another one for myself that i plan to dieselize with a mercedes 5cyl turbo. . . and then theres' the pickup. . .0

With the car hobby, the fun never ends. But since your 17 year old will be leaving for college soon, you need to feed him lots of vitamins and caffine. That, in addition to the normal vigor of youth, should get that car done really quick. Seriously, the car is looking great. Just keep plugging along and thinking of the day when it is back on the road. Are you doing the interior yourself?0

the orig. interior was ragged after all those years and altho still usable, i figured it would be sad to not do it too. i bought a old singer 36 inch arm sewing machine that would sew saddles if you wanted it to, made a 8 foot square heavy duty table and borrowed a really good upholestry sewing machine from a friend. this friend had done many interiors in his life but said he would not do any again. too much work for an old guy. so he helped me get the backer board, welting, had the upholestry and all the other stuff just laying around and away we go. my wife is an excellent seamstress and im a good layout person for working with and making patterns so we have started on it. being i have two of the same kind of cars to do, i hoped i could get her to make twice what we need. well, thats not gonna happen this go around for sure. i dysected the stuff so far, made new backer board where necessary and have helped with cutting and gluing. today im working on the visors. the board under the upholestry was warped and of course the stiching was so rotted that they just pulled apart easily. i have cut new boards and now must re-staple them to the mechanical portion of the visor. she will then attach some thin foam and put on the new upholestry and stich the whole thing together. i guess ive seen these advertised for $60 or more each. if a guy figured his hours as worth anything, $60 would be a deal. i don't have either a bunch of money or a bunch of time but will try to find the time. its very enjoyable as a hobby. im also anxous to try the chroming kit i have but thats another story. . . and of corse the house needs a bunch of up-dating before the big "graduation party" for the boy in may............ aaaarrrrrrgggggggggggg.0

Let me rephrase...With the car hobby and home ownership, the fun (or should it be funds - the spending of) never end. It sounds like you and your wife are very industrious people who are tackling the upholstery project head-on. When the work seems like too much, just think of all the money you're saving. The most car related sewing I have ever attempted was to make a few felt spare tire covers. At least you have the help of a machine. I did my work with hand and needle. As far as getting the house in order for the graduation, you'll do it. If you were close, I'd lend a hand.0

I can commiserate with having too much to do and too little time!
Be thankful you have a wonderful spouse/family to support and help out...better than being on your own and doing it all yourself!
In fact...you better go give them a hug and a kiss for putting up with your Hobbies!0 -
thanks for the kind words. the wife and i have a great understanding. she also fixes electric tools and hydraulic portapower pumps and cylinders for the business not to mention she is the computer geek of the family. . . . . and the boy ? can't say enuf about him. black belt, honor roll, super musical talent, very mechanical and can paint and do body work like an old master, and ready to face the world i hope. im gonna really miss him. . .0
