There are four hornets and an early pacemaker in line for crushing if they are not adopted. Three 308's one with twin H but missing carbs and head. Complete cars that would make good parts cars. Hornets are 4dr but pace is a coupe. Call me at 210-383-1450 and I will give you info and number. These car are in Bertram, Texas...Roy

If they were closer I'd get all of them and stash them on my lot :)

I hope someone at least saves these for parts...please!
  • Hi, I live in South-Western Idaho, on interstate 84. If I get one or two, I'll need someone to bring them up here. I'll also need a place to put them, where they can be worked on. Does anyone have such a place, and a trailer? Thanks Steve
  • I spoke with Ken up in waco today and it sounds like he is interested in the hudson's. I think that if we all work together here we can get these cars rescued and benifit the whole community. You'll be happy to know that after talking to Ken and Al today, I've decided to keep my pacemaker. . . hudson powered, (I guess the 327 is desitned for the 57 chevy) Well now all I have to do is get as much torque out of this 232 as possible. Has anyone overbored a 232, I read some place the overbore would comprimise the block but if it's the same block as the 308 shouldn't it hold. Looks like clifford performance is going to be receiving a larg portion of my cash for the next few months, I'v vowed to have the pacemaker ready by October. Who has the faster Hudson around? Wanna run'em in October in Kerrville, Tx
  • Hi, If I have a place to put one, I'd like one. (Lordy, I WISH BIG-TIME I had saved my '52 Hornet). Back in the early sixty's, we cut up(for parts) 3 running and licenced Hudson stepdowns. At least all the parts were saved. Just no place to put them, at the time we had between us, 16 others. Steve

To all who are wondering what is up with the Hudsons, I visited the yard where these cars are located today. I took quite a few pictures and selected one each for each of the cars. These cars are part of a group of cars that have been for the time being saved from crushing. Many other desireable 40-60s cars have already been crushed. If the remaining cars do not sell they too will be curshed. The current time table for crushing is based on the response the owners get to selling the available cars. I will tell you there are a number of cars in this group that "brand X" restorers and rodders would like to have.. but I will stick to the Hudsons in this post.

Let me begin by saying the owners were very gracious to me and allowed me full access to all the cars. After speaking with them I have gained thier authorization to post pictures and state that they will deal on all cars with prospective buyers. I was asked to post a home telephone number but have not recieved same at this time. For current contact information the following is the business information:

    All American Metals

    1944 E State Highway 29

    Bertram, TX

    (512) 355-2071

Google the address for a map. The yard is on the north (right) side of Highway 29 on the east side of Bertram and is surrounded by a blue painted metal fence.

The best car of the bunch is a 1952 Hornet 4 Door sedan. 308 with Hydro. It appears to be rust free. Odd addition to the car is a add on Aircondtioning unit. The compressor is attached to the block with what appears to be Hudson mounts... bolt to the block and has a 6 volt clutch... car still has a 6 volt generator. Crank pulley is one of the elusive dual groove pulleys. Car needs complete restoration... has a dent in rear passenger door.

The second car is also a 1952 Hornet 4door sedan. It is pretty well rust free but suffers lots of dents, broken glass, fully destroyed uphostery. The front end sheet metal save the hood is good. It has a twin H intake and exhaust with linkage. No aircleaners or carbs. Head off engine... hydramatic

To get all the cars listed I will add another post

Thanks for taking the time Ken ~ I don't see those cars as being worse off than others we've seen sitting.

It's 2200 miles one way for me - too far away.

Any idea what kind of $$ they were looking for per car or per lb?
  • The third Hudson is a 54 Hornet 4door with all glass broken. 308 with Hydra, trashed interior. No apparent rust ... the hood is super as are the front fenders... no rust over the rear wheel wheels... restorable? Engine is a very desireable item.

Forth Car is a 1950 P Brougham. This car is definately restorable, albeit very weathered and with broken glass. The grill is in the trunk. At one time the car had supermatic or drivemaster installed.

    BertramHudson7

Last Hudson is a 1953 Super Wasp 4door. The car would be a tough restoration. The front clip is rust free and straight. Car has a 2 lever 3 speed overdrive installed. The floor is out and this could easily be removed.

I have been around Hudsons all my adult life. These cars are probably all parts cars. The Green 52 Hornet will not be parted. All of the rest of the cars may be parts donors you will have to deal with the owner. These cars were saved due to requests from the classic car communities. If these cars do not sell soon they will be crushed like thier previous yard mates. The owners are very decent folks who are trying to make a living. I know it is easy to call and ask about the cars, but I ask that if you have no intentions of buying do not call. I will not be buying any of the cars nor any of the parts.

    Good Luck

Dan I was quoted prices, which were for sale to me... the owners really need to get thier money out of the yard so I suggested that if asked about price, I would refer the request to the owners. In a round about way the cars will be reasonably priced, but not fire sale sold.

    Cheers
  • Ken, Thanks for taking pics for us all, It's a real goldmine of parts, sorry you couldn't come home with anything. Somebody scoop up the green hornet please. If nobody collects anything by sunday, Ill go and get what I can.
  • They're rougher than I really expected. Farther than I care to drive to get cars in that condition, but I'm sure someone is going to save at least one.

I surely don't be-grudge anyone making a buck - I only think it's a shame to let them go to the crusher because the owners perhaps want a little more for these cars than they are worth?

At least sell them a little above what the crusher would pay...they'd still be money ahead to not have to take the time to haul them off...

But I'm only an armchair qb on this one! I can't put my money where my mouth is :D
  • One will find a home as a parts car. The 1952 Hornet is definately a restorable car. Using the other 52 that car could be back on the road with period aircondtioning ! I was told by another Texas Hudsonite that the 1952 was the driver for an elderly HET member from the Bertram area. When the owner passed that car and others in his collection were left out for several years and then disappeared. Guess at least one is now found... As Dan says ... go get that Hornet and make you dream of Hudson ownership come true.
  • this is a bump. . . I posted this original message and wanted to follow up, did anybody grab these before. . .
  • Brings to mind the recent Mitchell Indiana yard sale where stuff in FAR worse shape than this brought buyers from all over the country and got some good prices for them. Just too darned far away for me and my budget . BUD
