My understanding was the engine. 232 in the Wasp and 262 in the Super Wasp.

Actually depends on the year. The 52 wasp and the 53 super wasp are similar and had the 262. The 53 wasp was similar to the 52 pacemaker that it replaced and had the 232.

Well I was close. Actually I thought the 232 was always the Pacemaker/Wasp engine and when the Super Wasp was introduced it got the bigger 262 thus making it Super I guess.

The 232 got its start as the Pacemaker engine in 50. As hudsondad indicated, it was also used in the Wasps for 53 and 54. However the 262 was optional for all 232 cars including the Pacemaker after 50.

Interesting. So that means that the 262 in my '52 Wasp was an option, an upgrade, so to speak. Correct?

Nope, the 262 was the standard engine in the 52 Wasp. The Wasp in 52 replaced the super six in the line up, and was a dressed up short wheel base car.

I see. Thanks for your reply!
  • Attached picture is of my favorite Hudson, Steve McQueen's SW Coupe.

I understand that it had a Twin H 308 installed, but I'm not sure if it was a 7X. This car was sold in Las Vegas a few years ago for 22K. I have always regretted not buying it.

  • This car is a 2 door sedan, Brougham in the literature. Bill Albright provided Steve with his cars.
