This car has been the subject of much discussion on the 1929 group email list. I believe it is a RHD car and that they are asking about $80,000US for it. :cool:0

This car is definately RHD, the last email I got from the owners son was, that they had rejected an offer from overseas of 100k, no takers here in Australia at that price.

I'd heard many years ago there was a dual cowl phaeton south of Sydney being restored, this must be it.
There are approx. 10 of these known, not the "3 to 5" in ad.0 -
That would be the same car, has been under restoration for many a year.

The owners and SN of these cars were published in the WTN about 15 yrs ago. Will see if I can find it. There is a nice original that I grew up watching around town, and is now 15 mi from me. There were 16 made.0

The listing is in the Jan/Feb 1989 WTN. There are 9 Sport Phaetons listed by Pete Wetzbacker. The closest one to Australia is in New Zealand. This one would make 10 of the original 16 produced. Incidentally there was one in my home town when I grew up and it is now garaged 20 mi from me.
I have a book called 'Looking Back' written by Harold M. Gilbert in 1990, about his lifelong car collecting hobby. His friend 'Walt' hauled most of his stuff home behind a 49 Hudson pulling a trailer. Walt bought one of these phaetons and restored it and enjoyed it for years. There is a picture of it on Pg 157 of the book. He lived in the Corning area of NYS. Is this the one in the Buffalo area now? He tells about a couple of missing hinges and contacted Harrah's who also had one, but did not have the hinges either. They contacted a man in WI who let them borrow his to reproduce. Where is it? Is it the one which appeared at the 05 Eastern Regional in Springfield MA, or is it one of the 'lost' ones? And where is the one that was at Harrah's? Or in WI. Maybe Pete has an updated list.0 -
It must be one of the other ones because I was at the Eastern Regional and that car can be traced thru Karl Weber....0

the one in Wisc. belonged to long time HET member Harold Jornt, an old crony of mine - upon his demise it went to Richard Griffith in the Bay Area.
At the Denver Nat'l. there was a restored one that at that time belonged to Zack Brinkerhoff who later sold it, it is now in Wyo.0 -
This rare car has now been withdrawn from sale by the owner. The advertiser, the son of the owner did not notify his father of the sale of this very rare 1929 Dual Cowl Sport Pheaton. Bob the owner has been in hospital for a while and when he returned home he had recieved a number of phone calls regarding this car being on the market. The buyers were asking for Mark when Bob (who I have met through my work) relised that his son was selling the car and did not ask permission to do so. I will ring Bob in the next couple of days to appologise to him that I did not relise the car was not for sale after all as I had advertised it in The Hudson Hub on behalf of his son. Mind you a club member from Tasmania who was very interested in the car had notified us in the last week or so about the circumtances. Well sh## happens if you were wanting to but such car when money was no object. Sorry to those that were interested in buying the car.

There are two, I think, in Massachusetts. Ed Moore has both of them. One is original, the other was made into a funeral car. I think that's right. Hey, what you want - I'm almost 70 and can't remember where I left the cat half the time!!!
