I would let the buyer beware if anyone is looking at the 52 Hornet on ebay. I'm 99% sure that it's a seller that I bought a 54 sedan from that was not as advertized. Hind sight is 20/20 but I would beware of rust issues in the sub-frame. I would look closely at it if anyone were considering this car. Do not buy sight unseen. If anyone would like to talk further about this please send me an email.....

  • The golden rule is NEVER buy a car off ebay unless you or someone you trust looks at it before you bid. In fact I really don't have to add this but never buy any car you have never seen or had inspected. Save you a lot of grief down the line......

I can go along with those comments to a point, I bought my 1942 Hudson Two Door Brougham from an HET member in the USA sight unseen, I was more than surprised when the car arrived in Australia, never in my wildest dreams did I expect to get a car in such good original condition, early this year I buy a Rambler off e-bay, not as described, but, then bought another Rambler on e-bay and it was as described, both e-bay purchases were sight unseen, so as we see, not all sellers are out to get you, I must live dangerously I suppose, but, sometimes you just have to take the risk., depending on your situation and where you live.

Most of our Hudson-Rambler cars bought from the USA are bought sight unseen, and 99% have been as described.

51hornetA, I did not buy the car on ebay. I bought it on collector car trader. However, I spoke with the gentleman at length about the car. Certianly my bad for not flying down to Ga, to see the car.. I guess I'm to trusting .... However , I learned my lesson.....

The good news is after alot of work, the car is a great driver... after blood sweat , tears, and $$$$$$

I wasn't very happy when I got my car either, I was led to believe it was in better shape than it was. Could have been worse I guess as I have heard some pretty nasty stories on here.

The 3 x 3 rule applies - it will be three times as bad as you thought, will cost 3 times as much as you thought to fix it, and take 3 times as long!

I agree Geoff.... that's the way it worked for me....
  • I emailed Hornet owner last week and he finally got back to me. He said the underside was "solid". I had asked about the engine I.D. since it is red with a black air cleaner (possible Hash engine from searching this forum?). He said the only ID number on the engine is "304621" cast into the head. Anyone know what this is?
  • If there is no serial number on the engine it possibly means the original owner bought one of the JC Whitney crated engines and had it installed by either a non Hudson dealer or he did it himself. A Hudson dealer would have stamped a serial number onto the block. The number on the head is the casting number for the head itself.
  • Well, I see that this '52 is back up on E-bay. Has anyone gone by to check it out either last auction or this time?
