question on return line from carburator on a 57
Im bringing a 57 hudson back to life, there is a line on the back of the carburator that appears to be a vent line, it goes right up to the gas tank but has no where to connect, I rebuilt the carburator the car runs perfect, but pumps gas out of this line all over the ground. is the float mis adjusted... or is this line supposed to feed into the gas tank somewhere. Please advise

The Fitting In Back Of The Carb That The Line Hooks To Has A Very Small Opening In It It's A Metered Fitting And The Line Goes Back To The Fuel Tank Fill Tube There Should Be A Fitting To Hook It Too In The Filler Neck Tube That The Line Goes Back To I Hope This Helps

Ill climb under and check for the fitting, just to double check.... it would be considered normal then for gas to sort of flow from this line?0

That line is a factory fuel return line to take pressure off the carb needle seat. When seat closes the fuel returns to the tank and when you shut off the engine all fuel returns and leaves no pressure on the carb so as no chance to flood engine for hot starts. If you can't find the fitting maybe when someone repaired the tank they closed it off. Walt 530

I put a Rochester 4Brl ( From a Packard 400) on My '56 Hudson but it has no ftting to connect it to the fuel return line. It's not connected, even though there is a complete fuel return line. No wonder I smell gas! Much faster than with the factory 2Brl, and doesn't up and downshift as much, but it doesn't seem right!0
