center steering arm
Does the center steering arm on the Jets take the same bearings as the stepdowns. If they do I can get the bearings local. If not can you get the bearings and or the kit for the Jet?
I have the article in the WTN march-april 2006 about servicing the steering arm, but it dosen't mention Jets.
Thanks, Barry Smedley

Yes, the Jet uses the same bearings and peg as the Step-downs. I used a bronze bushing in mine. The needle rollers always have a bit of play in them even when new, and the bushing eliminates this, giving more positive steering.

I agree with geoff, I found that the bushings work much better. Got rid of all the movement and the road wander. Over the last 30+ years I've used both and the bushings win...

Norm,
I imagine there are cheaper sources, but this is the one I used on my steering rebuild last winter. As I recall, I had to chuck it into a lathe and take a little bit off the overall length, but it works/fits beautifully. Good Luck.

Thanks, Guys I have already ordered the bearings. Since it is easy to replace them and inexpensive, (5.74 each) I will try that. But if it don't help I might try the bronze bushings. My company buys stuff from mcmaster carr all of the time so it would be easy to get them.
I haven't miked the shaft yet, it looked like it had some wear. But when I took the bracket off and started cleaning it the needle bearings started falling out. So maybe this will help. Thanks again.
I also got the roof painted last Sunday. Wimbeldon white. Came out pretty good. Now I have to save some money for the rest of the paint, Dark Camel. Looks like a copper, goldish color. From a 1991 or 92 Ford. I would post pictures, but I haven't had any luck at that.
