im going to be wrenching on this 31 super six in the next few weeks. i want pull the motor to address a few broken bolts. i would like to rering it while i have it out and clean it up. where can i get the necessary parts? so far all i have found is gaskets. what is standard practice for an overhaul on these engines? timing chain? valve springs? inspect oil pump? bearings? do these engines even have an oil filter?

i also have a few parts that dont look to useable. this marvel cast iron carb riser ( if that is the name) has a few cracks in it, i will either be needing another one or have this one repaired. i am a welder but really dont want to mess with it. the heat riser in the exhaust manifold is also frozen.

oh, this flathead stuff is totally new to me, i have never worked on anything older than early 60s. ive built some hotrods, rebuilt a few motors, paint, body and suspension and chassis work. just never anything like this before. i have 2 hot rodded dodge darts and have been wanting something different for quite some time now.

Looking through the national roster I see Club members owning '30 or '31 Essexes in Spring Grove, and Philadelphia, Pa., and Babylon (Long Island) NY, both within a fairly easy driving range of NJ. You might want to consider contacting these people and driving out to see their cars. Or at least asking them these questions. They may be able to help you out. If interested, I can give you contact information and names. (Once you join the Club you'll have a roster sent to you, but in the meantime I could get you these names). If interested, click on my 'name' and I think it gives you a chance to send me a private message or e-mail.
