1938 Hudson serial number plate
Hi to all Hudson enthusiasts!
I'm new at this forum and in the Hudson restoration as well.
I'm going to purchase 1938 Hudson model 84. The problem is, that the main serial number plate (not those small one on the right front hinge pillar) comes unscrewed. Even the seller have no idea where it was. We need to place it back to avoid problems in registration.
If anybody have pictures or can describe its location, please, let me know.
Regards, Andrey

Andrey, it should go on the right-hand front door post (the windshield post). At least in most models of that era, it does.0

Dear Jon B,
The car do not have this plate at all, only pair of screws on the right side of the windshield post. I'm talking about the main plate (big one with serial number, year, weight and engine capacity. Anyway, thank you. Andrey0 -
As far as I know, there is no large plate such as you describe. Unless the car you speak of had such a plate to begin with. In the 1930's there was only a small plate on the door post, with just the car's serial number on it.0

Audrey, there's not a big plate on the Hudsons such as you describe. Info such as weight and engine capacity were never on Hudson ID plates, at least not through 1954. For your Model 84, the only number plate is the one on the RF door pillar. Our Hudson parts vendor K-Gap makes reproductions of some of the styles of number plates (I can't find my catalog right now or I'd check if they're correct for a '38). E-mail kgaphet@aol.com. You could get one and have the number stamped on it. Machine shops usually have sets of number stamps of different font size. You could perhaps get a photo of an original one from a '38 owner here on the Forum. Allan Minard, are you listening?0
