Oil drain plug

I would like to install one of those drain valves in the oil pan of my 53 Hornet. Does anyone know the thread size of the drain plug. Is it a pipe thread (NPT)? What size and how many threads per inch?
Thanks for the help.

1/2 inch I believe.0

you really don't want something that sticks down further than the original, one with a square recess probably would have been a better choice originally as it is hanging out unprotected. dragging that valve pulling into a parking lot could destroy the valve and/or the pan; regardless you just drained the pan onto the ground and hopefully shut the engine down before any internal damage occured. look at a few pans, and think about the scrapes on them and their plugs before you do this.0

I've also heard bad things about those drain 'valves', for what that's worth. Maybe a better route, if easier oil changes is your goal, is to leave a well-sealed stock plug in place, and buy one of those 'Liqui-Vacs' to draw the old oil out through your dipstick tube. I bought one of those, but have yet to use it for oil changes.0

I have a drain valve on my '03 Dodge Ram. It works fine, although I don't have to worry about graound clearance because it has 35" tires. The only reason that I put one on it is because I drive 3K miles a month.....0
