What a translation! Can get the gist of what he wants, though, and that's great. More to the point, he said.

Hello, I'm French, I live on the edge/outskirts of Paris. I would like to know if you could help me look for parts for a 1931 Model T Hudson. In France, they are not to be found. I have not yet found anyone who has one., Thanks in advance. Laurent ( Laurent Chapot)
  • I speak fluent French. This really says:

"We are looking for a 31 Model Hudson that we can sell to muslim extremists for the purposes of developing an Iranian Powered Weapon of Mass destruction and blame it on the United States" or other something like that...
  • I'm happy to provide assistance. I am not a guru but do have a 31 Hudson "T" coupe. BTW, I used to live in Guinea where French is spoken. I can order almost anything from la carte.

    Have a nice day

Okay, here's the next chapter in the saga.

I composed (with the help of my rusty Muncie Central High School French, and Babelfish!) a note to Laurent, requesting his specific needs. I just received the following reply in French. (NHP and Steve, HELP with the "idiotismes automotives" please, LOL!).

    encore merci, laurent

    Here's my best shot:

"Good evening. Thank you for having answered so quickly. To restate, I am 95% sure that it's a model T, of which I'm in search for an 8 cylinder engine and (box? gearbox? U-joint?) as well as drive train front and rear (??), of a radiator with grill here for the large parts (?). I would also like the headlights.

"It is a car which I saved from certain destruction, it was [ownded by?] a scrapmetal dealer who does not like cars; I think that the parts which I lack were scrapped. It's a pity really, because it is a very beautiful auto.

Again, I thank you Laurent "

I've forwarded both of Laurent's messages to two Hudson-owner friends in Switzerland, at least one of whom speaks French. It's not likely the needed parts will be found over there, but they may be able to steer him to some possible sources (some years ago the one friend found a spare engine there for his '33 T6, so it's not totally hopeless!). And in any case, Laurent may be encouraged to know of a couple of other Hudson owners not terribly far from Paris (the other friend has a '52 Hornet sedan, sold new in Zurich, and has driven it to the big annual Retromobile antique car show in Paris).

A couple of days ago I also sent this gentleman the contact info for Mason Olivier, a long-time member and Italia owner who lives in France. So he should have some contacts who will point him in the right direction.

I Have Now 2 Surrounds That Are Excess To My Needs(since I Found A Mint 1) If He Needs 1 But, The Best 1 Will Still Need A Bit Of Work And 3/4 Of The Mesh Insert
  • Laurent; I'm sorry, but I don't read, speak or understand French, but I will try to help with a little help from our French speaking friends on the forum. First we must determine that the car you have is a 1931 HUDSON ROADSTER MODEL T. If I could get the serial number of the car or a photo of what you have would help me a lot.

The items you are in need of are not common here, let alone in Europe. You say you need the engine, transmission, front and rear end. these are difficult items to ship and costly.

If your car is realy a 1931 HUDSON I maybe able to help. I recently bought a very rough 1931 HUDSON parts car that has all the items you are looking for all together. This car has set outside for many years and is in poor condition. It has a radiator and shell, but in poor condition, but I have an excellent used radiator and shell as well. If I had an email address I could send a picture of it to you. The sedan body was cut down, many years ago into a truck and is rough and will be removed before shipping to reduce the weight.

    Please send me more information.

    I've owned a 1930 HUDSON 8 ROADSTER since 1963. HUDSONLY CARL

I wrote Monsieur Chapot and requested his serial number a couple days ago.
  • Mike; I hope to be a regular visitor as time allows. I retired in 2002 and thought i'd have plenty of time to play with my cars and travel, around looking at good stuff, but it seems I don't hae time to do the thing I have to do. I don't know how I found time to work for 40 years for 1 company?

    WE'LL TALK AGAIN CARL

From the serial number, Mr. Chapot's car appears to be a 1930. Here is one of the many photos he sent to a couple of us who responded to him:

You may see the photo at the Hudson photo album website, http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/miscuploads.msnw?Page=Last . Just click on the 'thumbnail' and you should be able to see a larger version.
  • Is the 1931 Hudson Model T the same thing as the 1931 Hudson Super Eight Boattail Speedster? I have a few pictures which I have posted in the Hudson Gallery on this website. The photos are from the Beloit, Wisconsin car show in 1992 and I believe the car has a Wisconsin collector plate on it.
