Shock front mounting plates

I need a replacement shock absorber front mounting plate for my '50 Pacemaker Deluxe (the present left front one cracked). Does anyone supply new ones? I understand that Doug Wildrick sold these, but sadly he's apparently out of business. Thanks for any help! Also, does anyone know what's a good modern front shock absorber for a stepdown? Monroe 31094's have been recommended for the rear, but will they work for the fronts as well?

As for the front shocks, I have Gabriel front #82028 listed, although I have not used these. Compare with your originals.
  • If I remember correctly, and as is the case with most other cars, the front and rear shocks are different lengths.
  • The problem I have is that the front shocks presently on my 1950 Pacemaker Deluxe! may be the incorrect size having been put on by a previous owner. This is the second time I've had damage to the bottom shock mounts. Is this a common problem with stepdowns?
  • Some of the shocks are short for the front and have to have a spacer added under the cup washer on the top of the shock to give it a little more length.

If the rubber bumpers Kay Gap #s 202 & 203 are gone that will cause the correct shocks to come loose.
  • the best shock for the front is the monroe 5751, but they are darn expensive, Doug Wildrick has gone out of the clutch business, but I think he still has the heavy duty shock mounts. give him a call, BILL ALBRIGHT
  • Thanks for all the suggestions regarding front shocks for a stepdown. The mounting plate is no longer an issue as John O'Halloran sold me a plate this afternoon at our Chicago-Milwaukee Hudson meet at the famous Chicken Basket Restaurant on Illinois U.S. 66 in Willowbrook, IL just outside of Chicago. A great meet with over 40 members in attendance and a few parts venders as well. Thanks to hosts John and Mary Otto!

Just to clear things up here.I am NOT going out of business. With my new shop and direction,I have chosen to PHASE OUT the clutch business. This is for personal as well as business reasons.I will still sell clutch fluid and offer a complete line of mechanical repair and machine shop service.I also am building Hudson cars, mostly for myself and family. Thanks again for your understanding.!!

Dan,to add some direction to your posting.I have found that the front shocks bust out the bottom of the control arms for more than a few reasons. The obvious is the wrong shock absorbers, but another big reason is that the front coil springs are worn out and sagging.I'm not saying that yours are bad,but this is something to consider.New front springs are availible from several places.I have installed many sets of these. It will restore the handibility, and driving pleasure of your car.
  • Doug,

Sorry for implying that you're out of business completely. And thanks for the information about wrong shocks and worn springs. I hadn't considered the springs, but that could possibly be the case instead of the wrong front shocks. For now I'll try new front shocks and see how they work. Just in case for the future, do you still sell front shock mounts? Thanks for your response!
