Gday, Just speaking to my brother Jeff as he recently received a phone call from a chap in Western Australia. This chap has a XKD 57 Hornet six number 72. That means this car would have been sold in 1959 as they were still advertised then and may possibly be the very last Hudson ever built with the famous 308 6cyl Hudson Engine. More home work is still required to confirm this but all we need is all the numbers of the ID plates.

This would confirm that all 72 XKD 1957 Hornets 6 built, were built in Australia. The lowest number in our books is XKD number 2.

Ha ha, He is talking about Western Australia, not Washington state. Think more global. :)

FWIW, The last 1954 Hornet convertible made is in Washington State. It is owned by Dave Keister.
  • It would be nice to see some Stepdown convertibles in Australia. These here are the following convertibles downunder that I know of.

1951 Pacemaker formely owned by Bill Albright. Is is cream with burgundy trim along with an AMC 6cyl. This is a nice car.

1949 Commodore 8 in black with burgundy trim and currently runs a 262 6cyl motor. This car has a full history in Australia since new if I'm correct. I will post a photo of this car later. Very nice car.

1950 Commodore 8 in Dark blue again with burgundy trim. This car requires full restoration. It is also a right hand drive and once featured in a film clip. Member Bob Ward once owned this car and may know which film clip it featured in.

Just landed here in Australia is Another 49 Convertible, not sure if it's a Super or a Commodore. It requires a full restoration.

There is about half a dozen coupes, 2 hardtops, 2 broughams and plenty of sedans. About one thousand Stepdowns sedans were assembled out here from 48 to 54. All the 51 to 54 stepdowns were all short wheel base models but many long wheel base cars were fully imported when new and imported since.

Just a bit more on the 57 Hornet 6. The Body Numbers were tagged as XKD50__.

We've Located numbers between XKD5002 to XKD5072. Of the possible 72 built we've allocated about 40 of these in the past 10 years.

Does any body have an email address of Charlie Nau?

Well Huddy 42 I Hate To Burst Your Bubble But There Is Xkd1783 Listed In My 57 Hudson Registry It's Listed As Being Owed By Jeff Fripp It Is A 8 Cyl Car And Is In # 3 Cond

Also If It Is A 6 Cyl Engine Car Is It A 57 High Roof Car That Was A 56 With 57 Chrome And Would Make It A Very Early 57 Please Let Me Know The Entire S/n If It's A Xkd It Should Have A 17 Prefix Or If It's A Ykd It Should Have A 11 Or 12 Prefix

It Would Be The Last Of The Hornet 6cyl Cars Though
