39 Hudson 112 ute Barn find & 36 Terraplane Trivia
Here is a couple pics of a Aussie built 39 Hudson 112 Ute. These are rare but numbers of production is unknown. Three 39 112 utes have surfaced over the past 8 years but I'm sure there must be more somewhere. These were built by Ruskin Bodies which also built sedan bodies for Hudson and Terraplane from 1934 to 1947. 1939 112 coupes were built here and these were ugly. Will find photos of these later.
TRIVIA
Infact the very first all Australian Built, All Steel body of any manufacture was a 1936 Terraplane sedan built by Ruskin.
Is this another first for Hudson?

Here is a '38 Terraplane ute in a barn somewhere in Oz. I think Les Pendelbury sent me these (but it might have been someone else!).
As I said before, this type of 'pickup' is virtually unknown to us Yanks, though I did see a vintage 1948 Chevrolet ute at one of our AACA car shows here in Virginia, a couple years ago.
If any of these cars ever made it across the pond and was restored, I think it would create a sensation here. Everyone thinks that the Chevy El Camino's and Ford Ranchero's of the late 1950's, ushered in the era of the stylish pickup (where the "bed's" side panels blended in with the line of the doors), but apparently Ruskin was busy originating this kind of car at least 25 years earlier.0 -
In the early '60's Ford had a pickup model with the bed and cab connected with no break. I don't think there's many survivors...I've seen one, and I guess they're collectible...because with a load in the bed there wasn't enough flex and the truck damaged itself at the back of the cab. Did Oz Utes have this problem? :cool:0
