Last thing I need to do before the dip is remove the rear leaf springs. Saw a short thread on a Terraplane, but is removing the rear leafs different on a step-down?

Jay,
The bolts up at the front of the parallel leaf springs that attach to the body clip have ROUND heads, not hex. I repeat! ROUND! The bolts are inserted from the outside and point inward towards the center of the car. If you are looking up into the mounting bracket it may look as if nothing is there but I assure you the head of the bolt IS there. It is probably sunk in flush and coverd with rust and gunk making it difficult to see. You can reach the 2 nuts (one each side) easily since they are facing towards the center of the car. All you have to do is back off the nut on the spring bolt and tap it with a hammer being careful not to damage the threads. Possibly use a piece of wood between the nut and the hammer. Once the round head of the bolt has been forced out of it's circular "nest", it will come out just like any other bolt.
How do I know? I've already been thru this!
Check your e-mail for a photo that I sent you.
Have a great day and Peace,
Chaz
P.S. It's good to hear you are back working on your car.

OH I ALMOST FORGOT! When removing the rear shackles, pay close attention to how they come off. There is a Left and a Right. You may want to lay them down on the ground and take a photo of them correctly positioned. Also, if I remember correctly a couple of the nuts loosened COUNTER CLOCKWISE. What I did for the rear shackles was to get two of my wife's large plastic coffee containers (empty) and labled them left and right shackle for their storage until I could put it all back together.

This is definitly not like working on a Ford or Chevrolet.

Yes, there is a difference - Step-Downs have a rubber bushed front pin with a round head. Terraplanes use a threaded bolt into the front bracket.

What the h@ll? Are you actually going to get dirty working on that piece of metal sitting in your yard?

And here I thought it was going to be a paper weight for your business! :p

Good to see you made it through the 17th!

Yeah, was beginning to look like a paperweight! I've spent the last few afternoons scrapping the sealer out of the floors, etc. Geez, what a pain job that is! There is some left, but I'm just going to let the dip take care of it. Got some holes in the front and rear florrpans, but I may not have to replace, just fix, we'll see what comes after the dip! Hopefully not Swiss Cheese! Seeing everyone's cars and the Western Regional as given me the kick in my rear I needed!
• Thanks for the tips guys, they came off very easy today. Had to buy a 7/8 wrench, but all bolts unscrewed without a problem. I just put the bolts back in the springs as they were so I remember how it goes back together if I change my mind and keep them.
