Hudson Door Lock
Does anyone know how a 1930 Hudson door lock comes apart? My 1930 Essex SuperSix sedan came with a Hudson pinecone locking handle without a key. I found a NOS tumbler with keys which I think will fit but I cannot figure out how to get the old tumbler out. Any help would be much appreciated.

This was my experience. I pulled apart a 28 rumble seat handle that had a broken lock. I removed the cover cap from the shaft at the rear which exposes a macano type metal shaft which retains the locking pin and shaft for working the door. The way I got into it was to wedge open the macano piece which released the door shaft (the door shaft actually has a flange on the top of it to stop it from just sliding out). Over engineered lol.
Once you get the shaft and locking pin out, press the lock out from the rear. As you see from your new lock, there is a rebate around the bottom of it. Inside the rebate sits a fine metal clip which has two tits on it (for use of another word)! These are 180 degrees from each other. These lock into two slots insidef the macano shaft. As I found, this little clip stretches when you remove the lock and wont go back into the rebate. Now I would be very much interested if you could find a supply of these because if you can get hold of these, you could repair alot of broken locks as they seem to break in a similar place and you would be able to remove a couple of the brass pins and fill these areas with apoxy or knead it and then shorten the key to compensate for the loss of space. At the end of the day you only need one or two tumbler pins to make the lock work (and who would know)? I am interested in anyone elses experiences of these locks though as I mention this has worked for me, if I can find the metal retainer clips!
