I don't know if the 50 is the same or not but, on my 54 the rope is really a piece of chain inside a plastic tube that is covered with a material sleeve. I used material that I was using for the seat back to recover them. Not stock but it turned out ok.

Labaon Bonney sells them, but they are a little expensive.
