I've been watching certain parts (not Hudson) on eBay, with the idea of buying, rebuilding and reselling as a retirement project. The range in prices can be amazing- I've seen the same part go for $30 or nearly $200, at different times. I am the "lowballer" that picks up these parts at the low end, and don't care if I get it or not, so won't go above "my" price. Same could be true for the bearing- next one could bring $250! Just depends on who's looking, and who's "needing" at the time.
  • Mike, you are right. If you're not necessarily needing one then you wouldn't want to pay much for one. But how about when one goes and your ride is dead in the water. What would you pay then for a part that no one seems to have? It's all about point of view.
  • I bought two of these bearings from Les a few months back, just to have 'in case'. I fully recommend getting these bearings while the gettin's good. Easy quick shipping from down under - about as quick as getting something from the other side of the USA. Thanks Les!

There is a simple work-around should the world ever run out of new and/or usable and/or reasonably priced 25877T bearings.

The cup is still in production and readily available.

There are a series of parallel shaft cones that fit that cup still in production and readily available.

Select a cone with enough meat in the centre.

Take it to a machine shop and have them grind the required taper into the cup.

Cost of buying a cup and cone and getting it ground? $100, maybe $150 all up

Thanks Royer, glad to be of some help to my fellow Hudson owners.

I was buying rear axle seals for my '42 Hudson recently, and on the off chance I asked the guy serving would he have any 25877T bearings, as he was of my vintage, he knew what a Hudson was, he went out back got his old parts books out looking up to check that the number was correct, he then looked up the computer, no, none in stock, so, out the back of the shop and low and behold he found two bearings, he said as the bearings were obsolute and rare they had removed them from the computer. They do have an obsolute parts shelf, so it pays to ask especially if the guy behind the counter is of our vintage as they are more helpful than the young guy who looks at you and asks "what's a Hudson never heard of one."

I charge just a little over what the bearings cost me, no high mark up, just willing to help my fellow Hudson owners here in Australia or overseas.

He did not have a price on them, but asked if I had bought them before and what I paid for the last ones I bought from another supplier, thus we came to the price I paid.

If I find any more, they will be put up on e-bay at a reasonable price, always looking for hard to find parts.

Further to my getting seals for the '42, this is the third shop I had tried, the others saying" no they do not stock the seals", when I found this shop,( it is a branch of another shop I had tried earlier) only this guy was helpfull enough to measure the seals and say yes we have them in stock ,he said

" so did the other shop" I had tried earlier in the day.

Just goes to show, older guys will help.

There are a lot of these bearings around, on axles of various parts cars. Consider that if you want the spare for possibility of an "on the road" breakdown, it would be best to have a bearing on a good axle, so you wouldn't have to find a hydraulic press to install your spare bearing on your original axle.
