Looks like they are auctioning off several scrap yards. Interesting photos. I'm pretty sure this is a Hudson...
  • Correction...it's the remains of a Hudson.

Yes the 2 wasps on that sale bill are one good rain from being dust!

The local bi-weekly(yes, things are that slow around here)paper printed the sale bill for the June 9 sale, halfway down the page you'll find a nice original(body)49C6 coupe with 55-6 TWIN-H air cleaners. That's the one I went to look at in the first place, someone in the club should buy this one. :D
  • sounds interesting, I wouldnt mind a twin H for my 40 coupe!. Or having a drop down to add to my list of things to do. :)
  • Problem is that these cars are in minn and its always wet and they are pretty rusted out. Got mine in theif river falls minn and it had rust but not too bad just in the usall places for the step down but never less its been all cut out and fixed and has second coat of primer on it and being wet sanded.

They better hope it doesn't rain before June 9. :D

Even as bad as these cars look, there's always a little something that can, and should, be saved before they're lost to the crusher. If I had the opportunity, I'd buy them, strip them on-site, and call the crusher and get a few bucks back on the deal.

    I hate you

No really I envy you :D ~ I wish mine were to that point - excellent progress - when are you going to post some pics?
  • OK, what's up with the picture of the engine compartment?
  • Why is the battery on that side of the car? or does he have two batteries in the car. 55 and up aircleaners.

Here is the writeup on the '49 that's being auctioned on June 9 in South Dakota:

This is really a cool car with all the things you

want in a Hudson! Nostalgia and Speed. This

is a 2dr Maroon original car with fender skirts.

It has the Hudson Hornet motor with dual

carbs, Twin H Power Dome, 308 CI 6cylinder

motor that clamed the Victories in NASCAR.

Runs and Drives. The car is a Commodore 6

Club Coupe Broughmn. This was a rare

ordered car this motor was put in this model.

The car is nice condition with very little rust. It

has the original gray/maroon cloth bench

seat. The dash has the clock and heater. it's

nice shape- very attractive car. The interior

has nice woodgrain insets. It's a really cool

car. Straight and complete. Would be a good

addition to any collection or possibly rod- if

want to use a clean- original car. Selling ASIS

    with NO RESERVE.

That's what I want to know, too. The windshield washer jar is on the driver's side. 10-4 on the air cleaners. The engine is suspect. Did you notice the paint job? The overspray on weather stripping and rubber door bumpers speaks of hasty workmanship. No wonder they didn't bother to wash it before taking the pics. I like the narrative about the engine being a special order. Original car my foot. But, after all is said and done, it's a Hudson.
  • Have you noticed on auction sites everything is super rare. This one has the extremely rare bad paint job LOL
  • Still, as Dave said...it's a Hudson coupe. I believe that somebody could probably pick it up for a decent price. These auctions usually don't go too far overboard on old cars. Those of us that are looking for a coupe should not discount this one.

In addition, I like the rare engine option that was ordered and installed even before Hudson made a 308 (with Twin-H) available. I wonder if they have a time machine up for auction? :D This poor car is in dire need of an owner that knows about Hudsons.

If you look very closely at the picture, I believe I see another battery terminal on the other side. Look closely!

Good detective work. I see the other battery terminal. Two batteries...that's strange.
  • I have spent the better part of the day trying without success to discipher this statement "This was a rare
ordered car this motor was put in this model."
It looks like a derivative of English or maybe ancient Mayan. Still I cannot get the message. I believe it may allude to a disaster that wiped out his village....:D
  • I think the language may be a 15th century Mayan dielect called Dos Talkednesstado. Rumor has it that a mummy was recently unearthed in the Yucatan that displayed the symbol they used for their god, a white triangle.

I guess it's possible that it has overdrive, but I don't see a relay from that underhood angle. There may be a repositioned (to accomodate gauges) overdrive cable knob visible just beyond the cowl vent handle. I just can't make out what it is I'm seeing there. I'm a little surprised to see aftermarket blinkers on it, though. There certainly is a full compliment of in-dash knobs. With wipers, light switch and cigarette lighter the likely givens, there remains two more to account for. They are most certainly the fog and back-up lights. My question for you gents is this: Did these options have to be factory ordered to get the nice in-dash switches instead of the common under-dash ones?
  • If any of you Hud-nuts are interested, I attended the auction today(6-9-07) in South Dakota where there was a '48 Commodore coupe at auction, this one sold at $13,500, and went to the owner of Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo, So. Dakota. I'd guess he'll eventually have it on display at his museum, and it'll more than likely be up for sale again sometime in the future. Bidding started at $10,000 , ended at $13,500, good $ $ $ for a car that had rust issue's in the frame above the rear bumper, in the typical area that's known for trapping dirt & moisture on the step-down chassis. Appeared to be solid frame above the fender skirt's, but both Qtr. fenders obviously had repair's made on them more than once, from what I could see. Anyone want's some close-up photo's of this car, send me a private mail, I'll e-mail them to you, I have over a dozen photo's of this coupe for future reference. Had the strangest charging system I've ever seen on an old car, 2 generator's, 2 batteries. Someone wasted alot of time putting on a 2nd generator, for what I don't know ! Definately had a '55 or '56 '308', equilizer tube incorporated into the intake manifold, double groove crank pulley, no numbers on the R.H. upper corner of block. Just thought anyone that was following this auction might want to know the bidding result.

  • OMG, $13.5 for that!

The dual generator and battery install is something that is used today on commercial vehicles like limos. Of course, we're talking dual alternators on a modern car. At any rate, it seems that whoever did this install had some serious power demands and/or never wanted to be stranded by "a" dead battery.
