54 Italia Parts

I know they are rare, but I have an original one that I am restoring, but it is missing the grill and front bumper with the upside down "V" Any resources for parts or these particular parts would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Let me know if there is anything I can find for you.

  • You have a car Italia 54 that likely you will have to fabricate any parts for. Your platform and drivetrain are Jet, but any trim or exterior parts will have to come from a fabricator. The Souer family recently had to go through this with their Italia and that's what happened with them. With only 26 or so being built there just are no parts available. If you are luckey enough to find someone who will loan you the parts you will have to have them duplicated. Good luck.

My advice -- though you may have done this already -- would be to contact the fellow who keeps the Italia registry for the H-E-T and get a list of names of all known owners. (As you may know if you're an H-E-T member, the registrars are listed in the back of the WTN.) Then find the owner nearest you and see if he'd allow you to photograph and take dimensions of his bumper and grille. Because of course, with only 26 such cars ever made, it's probable that no one is going to have any spare parts to sell! Chances are that some of these owners will have suggestions of where to go to have the necessary parts repro'ed, because several of them have gone through extensive restorations (Ed Souers is the latest such person, I believe).

Again, this all may seem rather obvious but I wasn't sure how much you knew about restorations, Italias, or the Hudson club, so I thought I'd offer this advice for what it's worth.

  • just to throw it out there, have an extra bumpers made, and a grille, if you can. you could perhaps save someone the time, if it ever needs done again. I doubt the cost would be terribly prohibitive, for a second go round while fabing the first one.
