'Pink' Hood Ornament
I have very little information to go on, but would any of you Terraplane experts have a response to this: My 86 year old aunt was recently reminiscing about a Terraplane sedan her parents had - what she can remember is that it was purchased new sometime in the 1930s; that it was sort of a 'royal' blue; that it had 'pink' coloring on the hood ornament; and that it was a 'new' or 'modern' style for Terraplane. What would be your best guess as to what year the car was? Thanks in advance to anyone who would venture a guess!

I would guess 1936, the first year for the more modern styling for Hudson and Terraplane, and it had a ruby red "carrot" for hood ornament.0

She is probably thinking about the ornament from the 37 Hudson. It was translucent and pink or light red in color. The 36 Torpedo ornament is ruby red not pink.

Well, they got that wrong! The stylised bird is '35, and the winged carrot is '36. Sorry Jon, it looks more like a carrot than a Zeppelin! Incidentally, 1934 was the last year they had any external reference to the Hexagonal Essex symbol, although it was still stamped on various parts in later years, for instance on the connecting rods.

Gotta love the 36 and 37 terraplane ornaments. The 36 is the best. It does look like a flying carrot, um, zeppelin. What were they thinking back then?0

I'd say that at 86 years old, it's amazing that she remembers something as trivial as a hood ornament from almost 70 years ago.0 -

Depends on whether you consider the "Terra" ( earth, ground, soil - carrots grow there), or the "plane" - soaring, flying, ( Zeppelins).

Well , i can only say thank you and am pleasantly surprised at the 'turnout' for this thread. With all of the comments taken into consideration, i can see where it was most likely a 36 or 7 terraplane. My aunt does have a very keen memory and when i talk with her next i will ask if she remembers anything else and will show her the pix you folks shared. Not to split hairs, but why does the ornament for 36 look more like a salmon color compared to a more 'rubyish' red for the 37 (as shown on the anticlopedia site)? Although I'm not a hood ornament expert, I'd say that the color difference may just be a poor representation. If I remember correctly, the flying carrot was actually red in color. But then again, the color shown is appropriate for a carrot.
