Heater Core

Tom, Assuming yours is a stepdown here's how to do it.{I think previous years worked about the same anyway} First unscrew the Ranco capillary tube clip from the heater fan hopusing. Next, unscrew the 6 or so phillips head screws that attach the blower fan housing and disconnect the defrost/defog hoses at the blower housing. Finally, unscrew the remaining screws holding the heater core up onto the plenum. Make sure to have disconnected your heater hoses on the engine bay side of the firewall. Slowly drop the heater core down toward the floor using both hands . Usually a bunch of junk like pine needles dirt etc come out with the heater core. Clean out the heater core by running water through it and spray off any remaining junk. At this point you may want to check for leaks and have them repaired0
