Replacement Fuel Tank

I am looking for a replacement fuel tank, I have the day off today so I figured for fun i would remove the gas tank and replace it with one without rust and crap inside. Also was the original colour of the gas tank Black? Also from the time spent underneath of the car today i noticed that i need the passenger rear not sure what its called but it holds the skirt on the car. It looks like it was crushed and not sure i can save it. Also looking for the same area piece that runs along the passenger side up to the front of the car. Looks to be one piece and it was curbed also wondering if that might be available to buy from somewhere or some person.

Trying to get my car ready for the "Langley Good Times Cruise" IN British Columbia in September I dont think I have seen one at that event yet last time I went I was stuck in that monotonous group of Mustangs like all the other lemmings thinking a classic car was a 350GT. Now I have a Hudson that is twice as old as me and teaches me a great lesson in patience every day. If only I look and perform as well when I am 57. One last thing the rear axel should have what kind of grease in it, it would seem the previous owner put in 10w30 and I am pretty sure that might not be the best thing for it.

New gas tanks for Hudsons are not available. You can have your tank cleaned and sealed. For parts it would be helpful, if you gave the year and model of your Hudson.
  • I thought the little avatar up top was good enough, 1950 Hudson commodore 6.

Glen Johnson usually has tanks that are reconditioned for sale. He is in roster.
  • I never joined the club figured if I did then I would have to join a club for all the cars I owned that cost alone could buy me a new car.

I pulled the tank out found underneath all the road grime the screws for the fuel sending unit and the gas line going in and took them off. Attached to the fuel line going in was a painted red round item that i can not remove. does anyone know what this is, I only saw it for a second when i dropped a match inside to see but I am sure it was red paint and I am sure It was round.

    Is this item important?
  • When you dropped a match inside!
  • The inside of the gas tank ate the stream of light from the flashlight and I could not see a thing. When I was younger I spent time in a place called Newfoundland and the one trick I learned was to see inside a gas tank you first drop a match and it will light it up for a second. That and nothing beats Screech Rum

    Dear whatsyourname,
Just for the heck of it look up Tanks Inc. and then check out the dimensions of the '47 Ford tank and it's tank filler location. I had thought of using this one but I am running a fuel injected engine so I can't.
    Peace,
    Chaz
  • Hey Maverickhudson,

    Check out

and e-mail me (the editor) with your address and I'll send out a copy of the local newsletter. It has membership info for the national and local chapters. It is well worth it (at least the national). There are several local, active guys north of Seattle, and it would be a great way to get to know them.

  • Thats perfect and its only $80 more than mine would be, to be relined at the rad shop and it looks alot better. I will try that out, thanks

Our guy here charges $80 to boil and seal a gas tank.
  • We have one gas tank repair person in the area that I know of and he looked at my car then calculated in his head and came up with a cost of $120. I am sure it should be a lot cheaper but I have not found a trustworthy mechanic in the area yet they all look like weasels.

I agree, shop it around. If you just need a flush and seal that is a bit much. I just paid $60, at that price it wasn't worth doing it myself, as I would have had that much in the supplies.
  • :):) blue nosers in nova scotia and newfies, there a great bunch of folks. :):)
