Interior Suggestions?

Wow, you guys are coming up with some great ideas for paint, now how about interior colors to match?

I'm thinking either vinyl or leatherette, something that can be cleaned easily and withstand small kids and isn't too expensive. Right now my original Coupe has great upholstery, but its wool! Not good for AZ. My headliner is off white, and one spot of water, or cigar staining above the drivers A pillar. Probably will use it for a pattern. Door panels are a light blue material.

It would seem that the dash colors on the herringbone must have been the same on all Pacemakers, and my donor was gold outside, so I guess it must go well with a number of different colored interiors. Though personally, I'm not much into browns.

So, can I pick your brains yet another time? LOL

Wow - having a lot of second thoughts? :D I guess I'm lucky in the fact that my overall vision of my 49 has not changed since my teardown and decision to hot rod the car, I'd hate to be 1/2 way through a build still trying to decide on critical areas as that usually leads to rework and cost over runs.

If you're coordinating the interior by the dash I would pick the carpet and accent colors on the darker color of the pattern and the seats and door panels from the lightercolored portion.

I think a tan, leather or leatherette - btw what kind of animal is that? :p - interior for the seats would look awesome with the dash pattern and white exterior with pearl ghost flames. Actually tan interiors go with many color options already discussed.

I'd just make this point - maybe someone can trade out seats or get your old seat covers since they looked to be in good shape?

If it was just a matter of the stain in the headliner - it could be dyed to change color and cover the stain - but It is doubtful it would survice removal to spray insulation or use dynamat on the roof as you outlined in your other post - the good thing is I believe there are sources for headliners for Hudsons - just keep the bows and hardware.
  • How about a bronze exterior with gold ghost flames and a buckskin interior, leave the dash alone.

No 2nd thoughts Dan, I hadn't made my mind up on colors yet. I had a sample made up, but have not purchase any paint yet. But thanks for the suggestions, I'm still trying to decide.

    Jay,

I certainly wasn't trying to dis-respect you...I thought you had a pretty good idea of what you wanted from your posts and conversations we've had in the past.

In my car building experience (and many other things in life:) ) our first thoughts or instincts are usually the best ones - but in the end just go with what you know you're going to be happy with - and get's the darn thing on the road so you can enjoy it!

Plus, I'll just add that although paint costs are exhorbitantly high compared to what they used to be if the color doesn't work out you can always change it as the hard and really expensive work has already been done.

My 68 Chevelle is a good example - I wanted it root-beer brown metallic. But when it was painted it was too bland looking for my taste...after 3 months I wet sanded it down and painted it in the color scheme you've seen the pictures of...it was a 4 color paint job w/root beer brown in front, with gold and copper stripes and the back was a darker color brown metallic.

The end colors really worked well with the car and it was different than any other chevelle since hardly anyone (even back then) painted their cars "70's colors" :D

Dan, I never thought you were trying to disrespect me dude! I just noticed how many maroon/deep red Hudsons there were out there and decided I wanted something different. And of course blue is way too popular now as well! lol

I have some time to decide on a color, and you are right, they can always be repainted, though this paint job will go on before windows doors, etc.

I always take to heed your suggestions as well as others around here. The more folks coming forth with suggestions, the more choices I see.

With the heat are you sure you want to go vinyl or leather-ette on the seats?

I drove CJ5's for 20 years and those vinyl seats gets pretty roasty even though I usually ran a bikini top (on the Jeep ~ not me) to help shield the UV - I always had to carry a towel to sit on and a sweatshirt to pull over the back or constantly got "hot seat" when wearing shorts!

The vinyl was very easy clean-up and held up to the abuse and I endured the "hot seat" problem because my preferred method of washing the Jeep out was a garden hose - seriously!

For a covered vehicle I prefer a cloth type material (ie not woolen) for comfort and durability,

For instance the cloth seats in my truck clean up not too bad and I got the "big dog" slobber and his muddy paws tracking acrossed the material all the time :D

Just some more to think about...
