antennae

There is a set screw in the large plastic knob that turns the antenna to the up and down position ( on the headliner top of middle of the windshield ). You back that set screw out to remove the large ball knob. There is a nut and washer inside the plastic tube that is visable once the knob is removed. You will need a deep well socket to reomove that nut and lockwasher. That will allow the plastic tube to be removed. Once the tube is removed, you will see that there is another nut on the shaft coming from the antenna. That also needs to be removed with the same deep well socket. Once that nut is removed, you will be able to remove the antenna from the outside. There is a spacer under the antenna on the outside. I believe I got my replacement spacer from K-Gap. Now be aware there is a wire coming from the shaft that goes through that connects tot he metal rod that runs along the inside of the windshield and down ultimately to the radio. It is soldered to the metal barrel. If I remember correctly, I left the wire soldered to the shaft and removed the solid wire and the associated brackets with gromets by loosening the nut on the very top of the dash that holds the solid wire in place. I hope you can understand this verbal picture - look it over and you should be able to figure it out ( not that hard )

Any one of these that I have dealt with will have the inside plastic trim piece stuck on the threads. They shrink over the years and will get stuck fast to the piece it is suposed to fit over. You can't unscrew it either because it is an odd shape and it will hit the surounding surfaces. I have even seen a new old stock antenna that the inner trim piece was stuck on the shaft. But, with it off the car you can unscrew it and drill the hole out a bit more.
I'm sure you have all the set screws and nuts off and it still seems stuck on there. I'm afraid you will have to pry off that inside trim piece and it WILL break. I hope someone else has a trick to get it off. I doubt it though.0
