It's pretty sad he's still saying HET club members value this car at 15k.
This car body-wise is no better and most likely worse than my 49 4dr was when I got it.
5k would be about top dollar given the condition - even given the "recent work" and extra parts, I'm guessing he lowered his price to 10-12k based on the listing - still WAY too much for the car in that condition.
I love the truck trailer mirrors mounted on the sides - classic - maybe that's what added to the value?0 -
Maybe I should put my '50 C6 on eBay for $15,000 LOL!0
-
I saw that on ebay. he's listed it 2x now. I see where someone has questioned his $15k value, and he didn't back down.
I can't see how that car is worth a penny more than $5k, and even at that price, I'd still be looking elsewhere.0 -
You say rust, I say crust and some say dust. The price of ferrous oxide has certainly risen sharply.0

I notice not one picture of the frame on this car. From the look of the comments this guy has been taking a lot of ribbing over the fantasy price. Anyone who bids on this without looking at it or having someone look at it is going to get a rude surprise when their feet go through the floor boards.
Oh and by the way, talked to my local HET friends last night and they said my 51 Hornet is worth $91,000 as it sits using this sellers method of valuation. I now have my copies of the WTN in the front and rear seat to give it that we know what we are talking about look....0 -
I thought the old saying was 'rust free' meant 'no charge for the rust', but maybe in this case he IS charging for the rust, which would explain the high price!0

And the lack of pics of the frame is especially interesting to me, because I "emailed the seller" the first day the thing went on eBay (before this thread had even been started), relating how Hudsons have frame rust issues, etc., and recommending that he submit additional pictures of the frame, describing the typical areas of concern. He thanked me kindly, and said he would get it on a lift and do so, pronto.0 -
You can see in the pics that the driver side floor is rotten through so I would hazard a guess the passenger is the same and the frame is rotten on this car. There is so much rust high up in the door frame that this car is a rusted hazard.
Some people wonder why we get pissed at this type of sale we should just say nothing. But when a car this rotten is passed off as a spit and shine and all is good its bad for Hudsons. There are good cars for sale with in the community of Hudson people and they should get first looks and this type of sale needs to be stomped upon until it shakes out some truth. Imagine some newbie car owner rolling down the street in this car.0 -

WOWIE, you're rich! Now to find a junk yard and buy a few rusted out Hudsons so I can sell them on eBay and become a millionaire.

I can see the newbie car owner now, rolling down the road, complete with butt dragging on the ground after the floor collapses.0 -
"hudson all rust monobilt construction"0

Even mine isn't rusted up that high! And I paid $5K for it.0

Seller has added pics of the underside of car. Looks like rust through on rails along the doors.0

Well you gotta hand it to the guy for posting the pics of the underside ~ it's now official ~ the rust on this car is worse than my 49 without a doubt.
This car is only worth buying for the parts - I hope whoever buys it realizes this up front as this car is not worth saving.
I have a hard time believing this is a "barn find" - I'm sure it was a "In the Weeds and Woods" find based on this enlargement of one of the pics. I think the "weeds" were burning off on the drive home and filled the cabin with smoke:eek:

Yep, it's a turd.0

The outside frame rail is rotten through in the one picture you can see the big rust holes. The ad states this is a safe reliable driver I think the seller does not understand the construction of this car. In a side impact that frame would collaspe inward. From the rust showing this car was sitting in wet ground was pulled out a sad attempt was made to clean it up. All-in-all could have been sold as a resto project for the professional welder in the group. But the total BS ad about it being worth 15K that really took the cake.0

I'll never understand all the fuss some people (like the seller of this car) make about "Barn Finds." I don't know about the rest of the crowd here, but barns I've been in are anything but a suitable place to store a car. In addition to dirt floors, old barns are damp, dusty, drafty and filled with fauna and flora, as well as their byproducts. Therefore, I guess this rust bucket would qualify as a "Barn Find" in my books. I like the pic of the bud sprouting from the underside. It's a classic.0

Almost spit my lasagna on my screen when I saw that BIN!
I can't wait till the fad switches back to bikes or something else so we can get back to enjoying these hulks instead of constantly being asked the value. These chumps have priced the industry out of reach of the people who make it a hobby. Instead they have turned our cars into trophies.0 -
Maybe if the car had been parked in the second story hay loft it would be in better shape (?)...
Anyway, here's another '49, this time a "Led Sled" - Take a look at the BIN price!
If the car were parked in a loft, at least it wouldn't be sitting on top of damp earth. But then again, the condition of most old barns is such that the car probably would have (mercifully) fallen through the loft years ago.
Although the BIN is quite a bit of change, the seller probably spent that or more if he had it professionally restored. Sadly, he'll be lucky to see a fraction of that money again.0
