Drag Racing July 28, 2007 HET Nationals

OK I give, what are you guys talking about?

Does the 29 Hudson have something special I havn't heard about?



The 57 Hornet has a controled coupling hydro and I know its a 4-speed

but not like the single or dual range hydros of the eariler cars.



Really this is a shameless bump to get this back up to the top.

I would like to see some guys step up and declare that they can

kick my A$$ at the drag strip!



Lets see what the turbocharged 262 that Super651 is running can do!



I know that SpringSpeeddeamond has a hot 41 Hudson coupe but how

good is he at dialing it in?



Randy and Russ Maas are experienced drag racers so they will be a force to be reconded with were ever they race at.



And lets see Hudsonator get one of his out and flog the crap out of it to have some fun.



Who is game to have some good, smokie, burnt rubber FUN!

Well I am definatly up to just see all the Hudson Drag Racers show up at any track on the same day just to have some fun. If its on wednesday then I will work with Roger at Muncie to do this.

Good to hear that Dany and His wife will be there.

I also know that there are several others that will show up for the fun!

As far as the rules I believe from past experience that the track officals at Muncie will work with us. For example for a stock vehicle you would not need a helmet, or sfi jacket BUT seatbelts are a must have item.

Basically what I am saying is that the guys that race on a regular basis will know what they need. The rest that are running stock vehicles or lightly modified vehicles I can help you out here. I will bring an extra helmet.

Just remember that you have to have seat belts.

Normally two lap belts would be fine if your hudson is stock or mostly stock. Usually five point harnesses are not needed for a street car unless it's built to run in a quicker class than street or really really quick. I can't remember the actual time cut off. A shoulder belt is not needed.

Just how quick is your hudson going to be? I always take my helmet but the time cut off for that is 13.99 in the quarter mile.

Here is the final deal on the Drag Racing at Muncie Dragway on Wednesday the 25th of July during the Nationals at Auburn.





TRACK TIMES:

Gated open at 5:00pm.



Time trials start at 5:30pm. This is like a open pratice. You can run as many

times as you want or the car can take.

If you want to run off aginst another Hudson this will should be no problem.



Muncie has a Trophy race that starts at 8:00pm. This is run as a bracket race

by my understanding. A word of warning here: The local Guys are some of

the toughest guys to beat at this track! BE PREPARED to Drive the big end

if you enter the Trophy race.



Track closed at 9:30 ot 10:00 depending on car count.



Remember the guys at Muncie are a great bunch of hard-core drag racers

and are open to Hudson only Grudge racing.



Rain date is Thursday the 26th of July.



COST:

Cost to race is $20.00 per vehicle.

Cost to watch is $7.00 per person.



DIRECTIONS:



From Auburn Exit 129 on interstate 69 head south to Muncie exit #45.

This is also known as the first Muncie exit as you enter from the north side

of Muncie.



The road at exit #45 is listed at US35 / IN28. You will turn left onto US35/

IN28 and head east. This exit is about 85 miles south of Auburn.



At exit #45 you need to turn left, going over I-69 and heading east. This

is a 2-lane main road with some stops and passes thru some small towns

before it gets to the next turn. Its about 15 miles to the next interchange

but its a good, smooth road.



Stay on US35/IN28 and take this to 67 / IN28 interchange. This is quite

a ways from exit #45 at I-69. The interchange is a "T" and there is a gas

station on the right side so if you need supplies here is your best chance.



AT the 67 / IN28 interchange turn left and head north-northeast. After the

big sweeping right hand turn as you top the hill Muncie Dragway will be on

the right hand side of the road. This is about 2 miles from the US35/IN28

and 67 interchange.



The track access for racers and spectators is the road just at the east end

of the Muncie track complex. I beleive this road is listed as North Black

Cemetary Road. Just Remember its the road right next to the track,

Turn right and the main gates are about 3/4 of the way down the track.

NOTE: long trailers will need to be careful because the entrance is a 180

degree turn.



Total milage one way from Auburn is about 100 miles.

Basic rules:

First thing here is that the guys that drag race their cars should know

what type of safety equipment they need and what their car must have.

The following information is for the guys that have never done this or need

some basic questions answered.

1) all vehicles must have a radiator overflow can of at least 24oz. This

can be a tempary pop bottle duct taped to the core support or a permenant

one.

2) all vehicles must have lap seat belts. Solder harnesses are not required

in the slower street vehicle.

3) the battery must be securly bolted down to the vehicle.

4) the vehicle must be leak free, I.E. no oil leaks, no transmission leaks, no

rear end leaks.

5) all lug bolts or nuts must be present on each wheel.

6) vehicles with slicks must have a driveshaft safety loop.

7) Helmets are only required on vehicles that are faster than a 13.99 in

the quarter mile.

8) each vehicle must have 1 red light that is visible to the rear for night time

racing.

9) when in doubt, ask someone about a concern you have.



As a side note a copy of this will be sent to the editor of the WTN so it

will appear in the issue of the magazine to draw more people. With the

light schedule planned on wednesday night at the nationals lets hope quite

a few people show up.

I will be attending the Nationals in Wednesday and will be pulling out about

3:30pm so if you want to form a caravan down to Muncie be on the lookout

for the 50 Pacemaker on a trailer being pulled by a blue Ford F150 4x4

heading south on 69.

Also I plan on contacting one of the local Indinapolis News channels to see

if they are willing to show up and give us Hudson boys some coverage.
