We got Sara's Jet back from the painter. It will be color sanded and buffed after final assembly, but it looks pretty good as it is. The color is a 2007 Ford Redfire Metalic. The interior will be red and black. This is Sara's senior project. Here is a link to the photo album with 13 pics. http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/shoebox.msnw?Page=4

  • Color and paint look good.

I can't believe I will say this, but I kinda liked it in green.

Should be cool when back together. good job!
  • Thank you Hudsonkid, The Green one belongs to someone else... We just happened to get lined up together in the photo section.

Wow, this looks real nice! Best wishes to Sara for continued success with bringing the Jet back to life. What are her future plans? Will she be working with Dad on Hudson racing projects? Planning a career in automotive design or engineering? I'd be interested in learning more about the Jet senior project. Maybe she would be willing to write a story for the WTN?

  • Yes, hudsonkid, this is the car that is getting the 350 Chevy engine and TH 350 trans. Thanks everyone for the kind words. Sara is pretty excited about finally being able to put it back together.

  • I can't imagine a 350 chevy in a jet. That seems like a lot of motor for a jet. I think it has the potential to be crazy fast.

Sounds like a fun combo though....

I would even think that a nice 231 V-6 would work well in a jet. Probably make a terrific driver.

my personal favorite would be a nice 308 with twin H in a 2 door jet. Not a jet fan, but just seems to be something that would twist that thing pretty hard, well, not 350 chevy hard.... Heck the right 2 door jet came along, I might sidetrack my search for a stepdown coupe for a bit.

Is this jet going to get any track time?
  • The car looks great in red. Put a small block in and it will be a screamer. Are you trying to get that girl married off soon or what? :D
  • hudsonkid,

Sara is planning on racing the Jet at the Antique Drags at Los Angeles County Raceway on June 3rd. It will probably make a lot of tire smoke and impress the kids. I think traction will be a problem... We'll see.

Think a chevy v8 is good as long as it's NOT a corvette motor. That might be a little much. Unless I was driving. haha. Hope you got shoulder belts in that thing.
  • Lookin' good Sara! Love the color! Thats going to be one sharp looking Jet.

    Jay :-)
  • It is still not finished yet but Sara received an A on her Senior Project.

    Dany
  • I love it; would like more photos of the engine compartment too
  • Congrats on the "A" Sara! And nice looking job with the Jet!
  • Is the jet missing window glass? or are my eyes getting bad?

anyway, that's about the coolest senior project.

I was thinking that they would have given an A+ if it were a 308 in there instead of the 350.... :p

Next series of pictures I wanna see are of smoky burnouts....

melted rubber on the rear quarters..... :D
  • Nice color! I like the "flow-through ventilation", too! That's really going to be a nice one when it's done. Did you leave it minus interior for the drags! Bolt the front seat in it and go racin'!

That really looks nice in a monotone paint scheme. The color fits that car very well.

Hey "54 HSWH", is that your sister in your Avatar? If it is introduce me! She looks like she has a great personality.
  • Awesome Jet! I'm envious of the paint job!

No, not my sister; actually, I met up with her in a bar (Armadillo Bar and Grillo) in Waco, TX, just a short distance from Ken Cates' territory.

I'd bet he probably knows her too, at least from a distance!!

That looks like a corvette motor. About a 78', is it? Are you going to put disk breaks on it? A young driver...might be a good idea.

You got me thinking though about a four door Jet. Cut the roof and move the back window about a foot and a half forward and chop it about three inches. Made so that the side windows are hard top style. Make new quarters and a trunk that look like step down style....nah, I think your Jet looks real nice the way it is!!! Just leave off one of the chrome strips off the side. The original way it was made looks like it has contradicting 'lines' on the side of the car. Just one would look good to me. IMHO :)
  • I think the car came together nice. Engine fit looks great. Maybe a tiny it tight, but I figured a 350 in a jet was gonna be a little tight. Was there any firewall modification involved?

Kinda makes me wanna find a 2 door jet, and do something like that, maybe just a 308, but a 350 chevy gets you air, real easy.....
  • There were no modifications to any part of the body or inner fenders. The radiator is designed to fit a 66 Mustang with a 289 and it has three rows of one inch tubes, so it should cool the SBC just fine (I hope. hehe). It is mounted to the car in it's final location. It is about 4 inches narrower than the stock Jet radiator. The fan is 1 1/4" from the radiator core. I would like to have had a wider radiator, but his is what I ended up with (long story).

Sounds like Mr. Bent Metal might of had a few ideas for this build along the way ???? LOL..Good for Mr. Bent Metal always thinking..Good job by all..Take care and will see you in Auburn.....Ron, Lakewood, Calif.
  • Nice job there Sara! That sbc looks great in there!

As far as the radiator is concerned, if you have heating problems, you have enough room to remove the fan and put in an electric fan mounted to the engine side of the radiator. I have such an animal on my Hornet engine '48 coupe, and the needle never moves off the thermostat temperature, even when idling forever in August.
