My Auburn plans, gone
A work situation has popped up that will take me out of the entire Auburn/Muncie lineup. Its nothing bad, just something that can't be postponed.
This does not make me happy, at all.
The farm took out my Mid-South meeting in April, now I'll miss the Muncie mayhem via the day job.
This isn't my year for Hudsoning, evidently.

I can relate. I was supposed to be in Indiana for a few days after a weekend in Chicago with the family.
Instead, I accepted a job offer in TN which ruined my vacation plans for the year. I will be using my vacation time to pack the truck and move...
Maybe next year

I'm bummed, like you wouldn't believe.
Oh well, I think I'll use the evenings to continue working on the car. I'll salute you all with a 9/16" wrench every day.
I'll owe Ralph a visit, bigtime.

The Nats are out of the question for me this year, too. Where are they in '08 and '09?0

I'm keeping quiet. I don't want to jinx myself (again).

Matt. welcome to TN, bring lots of Hudsons and parts, too! Mark and I have been lamenting our woes of not being able to make to Auburn, welcome to our sad Hudsoners club. We're hoping its a short lived one.

Where in Tennessee?
Bill0 -
to Old Hudsons
to avoid the Honeymoon suite , just go to any of the next two exits south on interstate 69 and there are pleanty of nice motels and no problem finding a room

Matt. TN. can always use more Hudsons and Hudson folks. Two great chapters in Tennessee.0

Mark,
Looks like someone upstairs is telling you to stay at home with all
the problems that's been going on, ie the clutch in the tow vehicle,
twisted input shaft in the 49, rearend noise and now work.
Maybe we should keep that racing meeting we were talking about
at Bowling Green or Ohio Valley a spur of the moment event!
I feel for you as they are wanting me to be at work all next week
to get some last minute things done. I hate it when people in charge
can't schedule things but know how to make it your ememgency.
You know how it is, pass the buck to me then complain that I'm not
a team player when I won't change plans I made a year ago to pull
their a$$es out of the fire.
When you can email me your home address as I have something to
send your way that may help ease the pain somewhat.
good luck with getting the cars back together,

Knoxville. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to house shop. It looks like we will be renting until I can find a house. I'm hoping the Hudson will fit in the available garage

Welcome to Tenn. Matt. I'm Newport Tn about 40 miles from Knoxville. The Smoky Mountain Heartland chapter and the Mid South chapter will look forward to seeing you at Pigeon Forge in Oct.
I too, had to cancel my plans for Auburn. I had a defibrillator implanted the first week of June, and my Doctor said he would rather I not go this at this time. Anyways, I'll be at Pigeon Forge if at all possible. It's only 20 miles from home.

Yeah, I haven't mentioned all the bad karma going on up until this job related revelation. I kinda could feel this coming on, so while disappointing - it was really no surprize.
I had been warned of single lever input shafts. How they are not all that fond of 308 torque. True. The single lever I took out of the '49 had a twisted shaft just behind the clutch spline position at rest. This let the clutch work like normal (thank goodness), but was twisted noticably. I know the shaft was pristine and straight last fall when we put the engine in, but it didn't come out that way. Since I had rebuilt another single lever transmission to go back in (but neglected to heat treat the input shaft), I was really leery of a spectacular drag launch.
Note to anyone swapping single lever transmissions - you need to have your input shaft heat treated or cryogenicly treated. Everything behind the input shaft looks more robust than the dual lever, however bigger gears do make bigger noise and that oil bath clutch will engage hard enough to twist your input shaft.
Next. My Dad went tractor pulling last Saturday. He didn't get in until 2am the next morning trying to nurse a slippy clutch in the truck I was going to haul the '49 to Muncie with. It will only hold in 3rd gear under load. In 4th/5th its like a dry stepdown clutch - not there.
Between the input shaft worries and the tow truck going down, I told Ralph on the phone that the racing was out for me. But, I was still coming.
Now, the last shoe has dropped and I won't be able to come at all.
At best, I'll have to re-organize for October.
With all this bad luck, there has to be a silver lining out there in the near future.

What a bummer, Mark! You couldn't just pull something totally mindless, like an all-night odyssey to Auburn on Friday night or early Saturday, to catch the last day of the festivities? A couple hours at a National is better than nothing at all! C'mon, where is your sense of youthful abandon?0

Jon - you going to drive the T conv. over?0

Yeah, Pete....need a lift?? LOL!0

Congrats Nick!
I kinda understand the situation, but looks like you've started out right.
Honeymooning in the back of a Hudson.
Gotta love that Twin-H power!
