gas tank
i will be getting my gas tank back tommorow, and will be reinstalling. since everything just about fell apart around hole in trunk floor, i have a question about what it looks like when in. their were three pieces of sheet medal that go together and form a triangle around hole in trunk. there was some rubber also. does the rubber that underneath the trunk go around the fill tube, a tight fit or just a big clearnce hole, so with mat lifted up you can see thru. the car is a 53 hornet.

All from memory - The spongy rubber slips on over the neck but goes underneath the floor; the three metal pieces slide onto studs / posts protruding downward; slip-on speed nuts hold the metal in place. Rubber essentially covers up the bg hole in the trunk; don't forget the vent hose connected between the filler neck and top of tank....
Once you get that all in place, then you can wrestle the neck grommet in the fuel door box. Detergent helps lubricate the parts.
