G'day all.

Plans are now underway for a very large contingent of Aussie HET entusiusts to attened the 2009 HET National Meet. Some of you may have been notified recently through other contacts. It is estimated from 50 to 100 will make the long trip over.

Presumably it will be held in Detriot to celebrate 100 years of Hudson. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The way the Aussie dollar is going recently which is up to 88cents to the American Dollar, 18 year high. It be awesome for us to ship over some of our cars for the meet, do a tour on the famous aroute 66 and much more. TRADE CARS may be a thought... Just Kidding.

Regards

    Steve,

The Aussie $$$ has not been this good since I bought out the '42 from the U.S.A. It was 87 cents in the Dollar then. I think I'll go buy some US $$$ while it is so good. Looks like a good contingent going across the lake. Pity we have to wait for another two years eh.??

I just don't want you guys to think you can all come over here and drive on the wrong side of the road... :D

Only reason they drive on the wrong side of the road down under is because they are upside down to start with. Don't believe me - look at a globe.

Be looking forward to the Aussie arrival - we had a blast last time you blokes came over; Nashville '99. Chance to renew friendships from down under.

  • its upside down, not mirror image. watch mr squiggle, he'll tell you all you need to know
  • Isn't there a free trade agreement between the US and Australia... there might be an upside to this!!!

Les, must be almost 20 years ago when you purchased your 42 Brougham from the US.

The Aussie dollar expected to reach 90cents soon. Start buying some US bucks for 2009. I always liked the 54 Hornet Convertible. Maybe a 55 Hollywood in Red & White to partner my sedan.

    To HUDSON308

Hudson had it right in the first place, Note the 1909 Hudson with RHD...what went wrong?

I like that idea of a trade. Maybe just the parts to change a step down or a 46' to right hand drive? What all would it take to do this? A flip flopped steering box and flipped dash, what else? Anyone know? I'd like to have one with the steering on the wrong side.
  • IF YOU WANT TO RUN ROUTE 66, REMEMBER I AM ONLY ONE BLOCK OFF OF ROUTE 66 IN FONTANA, CA ABOUT 65 MILES FROM THE START IN SANT MONICA CAL, A GOOD TIME TO VISIT THE TWIN H RANCH. you are all welcome to stop by and see our hudson wrecking yard and restoration shop and restored cars, bill albright
  • I think that everyone should seriosly consider planning for the 2009 HET nationals. It should (and hopefully will be) the premiere HET meet of all time. It would be nice to get the largest possible turnout ever at a national meet.

I really want to consider myself there, but two years away, is hard to commit to. Maybe, just maybe, my 50 will be ready for a long distance journey....
  • I going to make a real effort to get to the 2009 Detroit Nationals, but I'll be flying. At this point in my life, I just don't have the time to drive long distances.

Oh just admit it Matt. Your a big guy and the Jet would be a bit small on such a long drive ;)

There's no way I'm missing a 100 year Hudson party like that even if I have to swim over from Romania....with or without my Hudson.... shoot maybe I'll buy one there hahaha. Is Miller motors still open for business? I'll lease one.

Well...there is that aspect of it. The leg room is good, but that steering wheel gets pretty close when you're as big as me.

But if that was really the issue, my 50 C6 should be ready to go by then. Lots of room in that sucker!:D
  • We're thinking of driving the Terraplane up Route 66 for much of the trip, rather than trailering it. Depends on what happens between now and then, of course.

All you "old" timers plan on 2009 - hell, I'm a month away from 70 - I'll be almost 72 come 2009, but I'm gonna be there. Even if my daughter has to tow me up there in wheel chair!!!!

Gonna be mighty fine in 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody planning on driving Route 66 would be advised to join one of the the Route 66 group @ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/route66/ or the

Maybe by then I will have all the stupid bugs out of the Special or will have torched it ;) Maybe we can caravan assuming I don't go the torch route.

You're NEVER too old to drive your Hudson to a National Meet. Just look at Walt and Margaret Mordenti. They're fixtures at Nationals with their '53 Coupe. This year they did their usual trip to Connecticut and swung back through Auburn on the way back to San Francisco. He's put 108,000 miles on that car, (which he just uses for long trips) since '98. I was honored to be able to wish Walt a happy birthday on Thursday last week. He's 86, and spry as ever!

And by the way, mates, the meet will be in Pontiac, Michigan, just a few miles from Detroit. Activities include a visit to the first Hudson factory building, where the '09s were built. Hudson was only there for about a year before moving to larger facilities.
  • What does this building look like today? I hope it still has that nice character about it... Throw in a couple of 09 huddys in front or through the entrance if it still exists, great black and white photos would look great.

Yes maybe so but it there's enough people there and at least one cop it won't be so unsafe for a gathering and some photo ops. We could maybe drive down the street of the main factory but photo ops wit the first factory should happen for the 100 year anniversary. (depressing though it might be)
