New to the Hudson world w/ a 49 Commodore.

Where is the part #number on the block that would help identify the year. I have a 49 Hudson. The head is aluminum w/ part# 300006 B. Unsure if the "B" is important. This part number is not list in my Hudson Master Parts Catalogue for the 480 & 490 series. I ask because the head gasket has blown and I have removed the head.

Many thanks to all the people who chat in this forum. I was able to replace the clutch will all of the info out there. Now I want to drive it but what to know where my engine came from???

Any help appreciated and Hudsons are most stylish old vechles right out of the factory ever!!!!

  • the block no is on the right front top running up and down, the number should match your body no on the pass side door hinge post, if it does you have the orig 262 6 cyl engine or a 254 cu inch 8 cyl engine, head gaskets readily availableif no is different than body, list it here. someone will tell you the year. You have a 262 CID narrow block as used in 1948 - 1950 Hudsons except Pacemaker. I know because the casting number is same as the one on my 1949 Commodore. To be sure look on the front of the engine on the passenger side in front of the exhaust manifold for the engine number. It should begin with 48, 49 or 50.
  • Thanks guys. After using a putty knife and a wire brush the numbers were revealed. A 1949 262 was verified. Good info as always

    O H,

Drop me an email @ NEChudsontech09@yahoo.com (drop the NEC) and I'll be happy to send you the 1948-1949 Mechanical Specification sheets by return email. Whole package runs about 16 pp.

And anybody else, for that matter.
