Splash feed oil pressure?

Firstly, my thoughts are with all of the people caught up in that terrible bridge collapse in Minneapolis.

Now my small concern. How much oil pressure should be reading on my gauge for the Hudson 212?

It is not normal to have a gauge on the 212 motors, only a warning light, which is all that is necessary, as the pump is merely a device to lift the oil from the sump to the oil trays. Earlier models did have a gauge, and they registered from 2 to 5 pounds when the engine is running at normal temperature, which is all that probably would register on a gauge if you connected it to the rear oil line on a 212 motor. Connecting to front line woul register no pressure at all, as there is no restriction in the piping to the front of the motor. The pressure in the rear line is developed by the spring controlling a one-way valve, which holds the contact down to complete the electrical circuit to the warning light.

Thanks Geoff, I have an aftermarket gauge reading 3 pounds. I was a little concerned that it may have been lacking a little, but I guess it's OK. Paul.
