I was informed that there was a Lipstick Red Super Wasp convertible at the National that was up for the Albright award. Did anyone get any pics of this car? I just found out that my car may be originally this color, but have never seen an actual car in this color. Any pics would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

    Thanks,

Lipstick red was introduced on April 5th, 1954, In two-tone it was used with Coronation Cream - lower/Lipstick Red - upper. The Option letter was RX.

This was announced in DL.54-17, dtd 4-5-54.

If your car serial number is later than 299862, than it could well have been Lipstick Red. I have a chart showing the 1948-1954 Monthly Production runs by Serial Number. I can send a copy to anyone who would like one - it's in my General Information Handbook, but I can extract that page without problems.

Ken thanks a bunch, but what I have doesn't really look like that from what I can tell.

    Alex,

Serial # is 6313483. Is there anyplace where I can find the code on the car or really figure out what the heck it is supposed to be. I was told a code could be on the passenger door, but there either never was anything on my car or it was destroyed. From what I can tell from the chips in the red that was sprayed over it,it looks almost a pink red. I pulled the gas cap cover out and probably found the best paint I am going to find. There it looks almost like it has orange in it but no doubt the car is some form of red. It's a Hornet Special if that narrows it down any.

The code is suppose to be stamped on the upper passenger side door hinge. It may be covered by paint.

    Nick,

I will take a closer look, but my vin plate is in pretty bad shape. There is definately not a stamp on the door, but then with the overspray and surface rust,it would probably be hard to tell anyway. I have taken pictures of my gas door. Just can't remember exactly how to post a pic here. Used to have the instructions written down somewhere but can't find them.
  • Here is a 54 hudson Super Wasp Hollywood painted those colors
  • I took several pictures of the SW Convertible from Auburn. Maybe "Hudsonkid" can post a couple. We were there from Sunday thru Tuesday noon and got about 900 pictures including the ACD Museum.

I'll post what I have if I can figure how to do it. I don't do it often enough and I forget the steps. This forum is not user friendly for pics. You have to go through a lot of hassle to do it and if you don't d it often you forget. Where can one find a chip chart to figure out what the heck this car is?

the oranger half looks to be roman bronze. at least on my screen. the red half apears too dark for lipstick and too light for royal red.

I've pulled out the hood cross brace and will post a picture of that tomorrow. They were pretty skimpy on the paint but it is big enough to show the picture better. Lance Walker ( Hudzilla) and I just got off the phone and the conclusion is Salmon. Apparently an AMC color. Since this is a Special and was apparently very late in the production run, many things on it are strange. According to Lance, Nash management was in charge by then so they painted them whatever they liked. I did a lot of going over the car tonight, polishing chips in door jambs and sections of firewall, along with going around every crevace of the trunk. This Salmon color is consistant throughout. The more time I spent with this car the more unique things I find out and the rarer it appears to be. I can see where in the pic it might look bronze. It's a pretty small area to get a pic of very well.

i'll stick with the guess that your car was roman bronze.

Interesting site. Never heard of it. Couple of things come to mind, first there is no Lipstick Red which is actually on the Hudson list of colors for 54 that I have. Roman Bronze is to dark. I went to 54 Nash and didn't see anything close, but if you go to 55 Nash there is a Coral Red that is almost spot on.

it took me about 15 years to find a set of 54 chips with a lipstick chip. most only list it on page 2 without actually showing a chip. an actual roman bronze car will look much like coral than what you would call a bronze.
fwiw my chip looks like your hood brace.
