Sizing a muffler and tailpipe

Ok, this may sound stupid but how do I size the muffler and tailpipe I need? I have a 308 in my pickup.

    what are you going to do with it? if you are looking for max power at full throttle for say drag racing, go 3" if you are doing single. it depends what your purpose is.

    Cruzing/driving. Would be nice with a little power, but want fuel economy too. Is that asking too much, lol

    2" was standard for 308, 2 1/4" will give you better sound and slight bit more power
