Chyrsler Radio Ad a Hoot!

I heard an Chyrsler ad on the radio this morning that darn near made coffee come out my nose as I was driving to work...
Did you know that in 1934 they used the first wind tunnel to design their cars?
Their cars were then so successful and streamlined because of all that wind tunnel testing that in the 50.s NASCAR had changed the rules to ban the cars!
Hmmm - me thinks they are trying to take credit for Hudson engineering!

Ah, they're grasping at straws and trying to get by on the merits of others. As if info like this is going to sway anyone into buying a Cerberus, um, I mean, Chrysler product. I wonder if their new logo is going to be a three headed dog?0

Even worst, one of the import manufacturers , I forget which, is showing the Hudson proving grounds in their TV commerical when talking about the history of their company's engineering. Werid, its only about a 2 second frame....but its not very cool.0

Perhaps you guys have forgot about the Airflow? It WAS the first car designed with the aid of wind tunnel testing.0
-
True. And look where it got them. People at the time hated the styling.0
-
They were ahead of their time, what can I say?0

Chrysler came out with a new an inovative design with the airflow right in the middle of the depresion. Lots of those inovations were copied by others over the years. As far as engineering was concerned I dont think Hudson was with it in the middle to late 30's.0

Re: the banning of the cars, it appears they're talking about the 300s, which were banned after the 1956 season, so they don't have it exactly right.0
-
Heck,
The Wright Brothers used a wind tunnel to test there aircraft in the early 1900's. I think it was old hat by the 30's0 -
Airplanes, yes. Cars, it was a new thing for that. If windtunnels were used for cars other than Mopars in the '30s, ALL the late '30s cars would've looked like Airflows!
And the ban DOES refer to the 300 series.0
