Me Thinks You Have One For A Jet, Stepdowns Are No 3081, Wagner Or Other Brands, Bill Albright0

not to give you guys the business, but here is something I could make worth my while. I have doubts that some of you old timers might be able to claim on a lifetime warranty as such, but the ole "kid" might be able to, maybe more than once... hehe....
good to know, if it is stepdown, that's even better!0 -
How Much Are They? & What Is The Bore?
Thanks

HK, since you're under 40, the stores will sell you the same part with a 90 day guarantee. Comes out the same as the lifetime does for someone who's 85.0 -
Any currently made for 1937?0

Actually Bill... the one I have is exact replacement for the Wagner Lockheed item... I took core into Oreillys when I purchased same.
The cost was $63 and change with Texas sales tax.
Hudsonkid... this old timer will be able to put this on the counter for a replacement anytime it decides to push brake fluid past the seals... one I am replacing has been rebuilt three times... mostly because the bore is too big for the seals to keep good seal... so I am happy.
Do not know about MC for 1937... Check the Backus Hudson Parts book I posted to my website.... may have some recommendations.0 -
I'll tell you what....
I like the idea that when the old master cylinder decides to be leaky, to just take it back to the parts store and trade it in. Mine is on second time around, since I did the car, maybe this is something to look at. $63 is real fair for a lifetime part, such as a master cylinder....
I'm gonna check to see the availability at our local autoparts houses... NAPA, Autozone, ADvanced Auto, Pep Boys, Car QUest... etc... we don't have Oreilleys here, in PA. I'll report back.
Yeah, I know, you got me on that snappy comeback old timer!
I was gonna reply that if you ask, those kids behind the counter will come out to your car to get the return, if need be... hehe...
(Hudsonkid ducks, as Ken throws his old master cylinder at him!)
Oh yeah, does anyone else think that the worst smelling fluid in a car has got to be brake fluid? yuck, and gear oil is a close second. Gosh I hate that stuff, and getting it on your hands is even worse.....0 -
Hudsonkid... Alls well and I bet Hudsondad sometimes bites his tongue as I do with my adult sons.... all part of being in the over 40 crowd...
Have fun

Hudson and Terraplane 1937 - 1947 use a #4360. Will fit 1936 with some small unknown modification.0 -
li still think you have a jet mcyl, the bore is smaller than the 3081 that is used for stepdowns. the 3081s can be bought from KENNY CORDLE IN OHIO FOR 49.95 ON E BAY ALL THE TIME. i BUY 3 AT A TIME FROM HIM TO SAVE ON SHIPPING THE OLD MAN, BILL ALBRIGHT0

Is this a current wagner number or other?
Thanks Chuck G0 -
you guys...
anyway, sorry for being late, but happy birthday HOT!!!!
what's that make, anyway???
(hudsondad's got 10 years on you...)0 -
IT IS NOT ONLY A CURRENT NO, BUT HAS BEEN USED FOR OVER 40 YEARS, bill albright0

Part numbers are abysmal endeavors.
Bill's right about the Wagner number.
However, the big parts suppliers have their own numbers that correspond to bar code numbers - and change those like the weather. I think they try to track the type of vehicle parts are sold for rather than the individual parts being sold. Interchange be damnned, they want to sell you the same part for more money if it happens to fit on a rarer model/make of vehicle.
Hudson master cylinders for example, have a different "part" number in the computer than an F100 Ford. However, when you get the master cylinders - they have the same "part" number from the manufacturer.
I've recently had this issue with both the universal joints and the carrier bearings from NAPA.
Makes you wanna slap the self important idiot who mixes these relatively simple numbers up.
So, you are both likely correct. Bill and HOT. I'm with Bill, I'll buy any other m/c's I'll need from Kenny off ebay - if he has them when I need them.

Is there actually any difference between the Jet and the Step-down master cylinders? They both have the same mounting bolt spacing, and are both 1" diameter bore.

Well... was trying to provide a number that is current... BTW the number crosses to the number Bill is using it is the same...as Geoff says ... bore is the same and MC is listed as a Jeep replacement item... did not know the other Ken was selling MC on Ebay ... might have used him... but that will not happen now as the new MC is in the Wasp and the brakes are working fine. As Hudsonator says... someone is always tinkering with something in the automotive replacement parts biz.
In this case new was compared to the old at the counter before the cash was exchanged... exact match so cash changed hands.
Out to the garage to adjust the shift linkage.

I still like that autoparts store lifetime warranty0

Thanks Chuck G
The part number 4360 is a current NAPA/Raybestos number. Wagner apparently doesn't support this part.0 -
You guys want a warrenty? I will give a warrenty, How much do you need? mine are NEW casting and all! be carefull buying a "NEW" one from someone when they want a core. I do not need a core or charge a core charge! but remember when I receive an old part back for warrenty I will disaasemble to see why it had a failure. All of the time it is dirt from floorboards...keep in mind no matter where you get them from me or anywhere else CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN your floors before sevicing them.
