Park W.
Park, Do you know about the Hudsons in ATOMIC AUTO PARTS yard at 3921 Whiskey Rd. AIKEN S.C. Hwy 19 South ? 648 1788 Curt and Curtis Young.
A few step-downs and very Rusty. I have bought many New Hudson parts from there over the past 35 years so now all he has left is a few rusty stepdowns. ( they want to clean the yard up ,and that is going to be a JOB )
Thanks Rudy

might bea job but its good to save whatever is saveable...maybe you could have a club activity where folks get together to help do the job. Just a thought0

651, I don't know anything about those cars. What do they say about them? Any decent sheet metal, etc.? It's unfortunate that we don't have any club members in that immediate area, and relatively few in all of SC ... would make it tough to mount a salvage operation unless there were some high value pieces to be saved. According to roster, the closest member is in Columbia: John Rosella: tel. 803-739-9590, hetrosellajohn@hotmail.com (remove het for actual e-mail address). Maybe he knows something about the cars or would be willing to scope them out.0

I am an "un-employed" stay-at-home Army spouse. I could make a trip if the Membership would want to help with gas as part of the parts delivery.0 -
Thanks Park, i will get to John and see if he knows about them.
Very few hudsons left like 4-5 and the sheet metal is all Rusted out , but the Trans, Engines and Diffs. might be ok for parts.
( the chrome is no longer on any of the bumpers or front end parts Rust,Rust.)
I will call John and see if he will go down and look.
Thanks to all Rudy0 -
remember, anything that might be saveable, you never know when that oddball part you think is as easy as pie to find, such as a OD RELAY.... is almost impossible to locate for months...
I guess it's dumb to say, but they aren't making any of it anymore, so save what you can.0 -
H-Kid, did you see my post on potential good source for nice modern 6v relay for OD or other purposes (electric fan, etc.)? I should be getting two samples by week's end. Will post info after I've examined and tested them.0
-
Park, you find these to work, and need a test "mule" lemme know. I'll re-wire to test one.
Hudsondad found me a relay from a 54 Super Wasp we parted back in the early 90's. It is hopefully, good. We'll see soon!0 -

Good Luck prying any money out of HET for anything but their own interests - they expect you to donate your time and money for zero compensation.
At least that's been my experience dealing with the club so far.0 -

I meant those that want parts. But I uderstand your statement.
If after Super651 gets more information, and there are engines, trannys and diffs (and other sundry parts - I know I need a wheel/rim as I have a bent one as a spare), I would be willing to drive down, help pull them, and then help deliver/store them.0 -

Darn nice of you to pitch in to save Hudson parts. You've got a good heart.0 -

Not to sound combative Rambo (not intended that way) but the organization has to have money to be able to put it out. It ain't the smithsonian. How many other non-profits ask for volunteers? HET Also has lost a lot of money recently in a few incidents. Having said that, I do think and have suggested to national leadership we should setup a fund perhaps even storage space (long-term) to make such rescues of cars that are otherwise destined for the crusher as junkyards around the country get "cleaned up" thereby destroying good usable parts and cars. You hear about this all this time (ie in 1 week these cars are going to the crusher if we don't rescue them) I have no illusions as to how conservative HET is, many of our Veteran members remember buying cars out of junkyards for $50 when they couldn't be given away. There's a lot of members who help eachother individually but HET rarely initiates projects nor does leadership delgate tasks to members. So much initiative happens out of the goodness of people's hearts and the love of the cars. Needs to be more political will for the organization itself to act.0 -
I know I get in trouble every time I chime in about the HET club, but one thing I would offer to suggest, is that all of the club officers (other than those that are already here) should have a regular and known presence on the board here. Their subtitle (you know where mine says "ruler of the hudson board") should all include their official club title.
I think that would be good, not only when it comes to seeing feedback as what Rambos has here, but other items in the past. I don't know if the current pres is around here, but it would be nice to see.
like it or not, Rambos is one of the voices of dissatisfaction, and it needs to be looked at with validity, and consideration. Ironic that this is all occuring in a thread with Park W as the title, when I went thru my bout of dissatisfaction, Park contacted me, and at least offered a listening ear.
Many times the problems are small, but turn into mountains when they just get swept aside, and are allowed to fester.
I know I said it in the past, but us younger guys are the club's future.
As far as saving parts, and rescuing parts, and such, I bet most older time Hudson folks have a fair store of parts, anyhow. It gets to a point where finding room to store that extra fender, or hood, bumper, or carb, gets difficult. you can't use it up fast enough.
I was just thinking about this the other day, I know of a few hudsons that could use rescued, but the problem is where do you go with the parts? I can't store extra engines, trannys, fenders, glass, or dashes. And unfortunately, pop's got the garages full, no more room to build anymore.
THe other problem, is when the cars are in a spot where they need to be removed, and moving them is a problem where they may *snap* you kind of don't want to bother, unless you can leave a remaining hulk for someone else to deal with.0 -

I need to get out of the house. This house Husband job sucks when not living on an Army base - No Spouse's Coffee Club, No Hosipatal Board, No Adopt-A-Single-Soldier-Away-From-Home, no cheap golf, no free rifle and archery range............
HK....Right now I have room for some engines, trannys, a few diffs and several boxes of other sundry parts that may be saved from these few cars in SC. I am willing to do this if:
1) I am told exactly where they are
2) Other people that want the parts that are farther away help pay for my gas for me to make the trip
3) A little help on removal day0 -

It sounds like you need a vacation. Maybe you could start a coffee club with the neighbors. Or, perhaps a trip to a junk yard to retreive some Hudson parts would do the trick.0 -
Well, H'kid, at least you know one HET Board member hangs around this place regularly. LOL.0

Rambos ride,I really don't understand your statement?? What is it that the HET Club HASN'T provided you with that you would make such a statement??.Are you a member?,or have you ever been a member?,and what is it that you are wanting to be compensated for?.There are too many people in the HET Club, coast to coast, continent to continent and around the world, that have given their time and donated countless hours and dollars to make the cars that Hudson built worth anything at all !!!! Maybe you should try offering something to the club vs.expecting to be paid for something. If you do manufacture or offer something for the club,I'm sure most are greatful. If your experience with a few has not been pleasant, don't criticize the rest of the members.0 -

I guess I was feeling a little fiesty and should have qualified my statement or not made it?
I have no issues with anyone from the club.
I make a very good living as a professional programmer - good enough I generally do not have to work full time year round.
So when I first got into Hudsons a couple of years ago I offered to trade my programming skills to donate some work on the clubs website and all I asked for in return was a 1 year membership to the club.
I was ignored by the club then rebuked on this forum for even asking for that little bit of compensation and basically was told that club members were asked to donate their time and resources for free no matter what the project was.
Personally, I have donated several hundred hours of programming work for charity auctions over the last several years for organizations that do not have a paid membership base and just cannot afford the services of a professional programmer - these organizations help people in need.
The HET Club does not help people in need - it's a car club and it would have been a steal for them to trade some programming work of any kind for a 1 year membership.
And someone can correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is the HET Club, Inc is for-profit and the HET Historical Society, Inc. is non-profit and not affiliated with the HET Club what so ever.
That being said this is way off topic and the poster I was responding too originally has made it clear he was talking about the membership on this forum to help kick in the money for gas to help save some parts and not the HET Club membership,
So my apologies if I've offended anyone.0 -
Dan,
The math just doesn't add up. All of the other issues mentioned above aside, it seems like you're getting offended or upset over twenty five bucks! On the flip side, had you done the work you speak of you'd have been given a hero's welcome from all of the grateful people in the club that would have truly appreciated your efforts. That would've been worth a lot more than twenty five bucks also. If you've ever seen the White Triangle News, then you'd also know you're getting a bargain for your years membership fee just in that magazine alone. You must know that the HET Club is run on a shoe string budget and wouldn't exist if not for all of the generous people that donate their time, money and talents all for the benefit of others.0 -
For the record, both Hudson organizations are non-profit, but the Historical Society is a non-profit "charitable" organization (it can receive tax-deductible contributions to further its chartered objectives). The HET Club does compensate the White Triangle Editors; it also provides a modest stipend to the Club Store Manager and Membership Chairperson, both of these being positions which require an extraordinary amount of work on a regular basis.0

Park W - Thanks for the information and corrections I think both organizations would be better served to make this point clearer on their respective websites.
This is not a slam on whoever has been donating their time to do the website work to this point but I'd argue that having an updated and more feature rich website requires an extaordinary amount of work and time as well but it's plainly and painfully obvious this has never been a priority of either HET organization.
I have tons of ideas that would make HET's web presence benefit all club members, spread the Hudson word and probably make the club more money for other ventures or charity offerings - and - the training, expertise and knowledge to pull it off.
So yeah Hudsonguy - I was (and still am) offended with the attitude of and way in which my offer was received - it's not about the money.0 -
Guess I might point out that, in at least one instance, Dan has both "volunteered" and also shown he has the horsepower to make improvements to the website- remember the minor brouhaha a few weeks ago, over the "back" button? Dan's offer to fix it was greeted very coolly at first, 'til someone finally figured out that he might actually know what he's talking about- result, my back button now works! Thanks, Dan! Rambo, give him a biscuit!0

Thanks guys - but I can only take credit for bringing the issue up and pursuing a resolution by pushing through the bs and inital backlash that was displayed.
The fix back then was all because of the hardwork of the website admin - who should get the props for pursuing the problem - albeit with a little prodding
However the "back" problem has also crept silently back into this site as a certain rotating ad shown in the right ad display space causes this behavior again - so when this particular ad is displayed in the right ad space you still have to "back nav" 2x to get back to the post or thread.0 -
Now if we could only get the site to remember me more than once every 25 visits or so (no exaggeration). Anyone else have this problem?
Dan, in this thread have you been referring to this Classicar web site or to hudsonclub.org? I assume the former. I don't believe we have much control over this one. Some influence, however, thanks to our heavy usage and to moderator Jon and others. The club of course has complete control over its hudsonclub.org site, albeit limited by the volunteer webmaster's time.0 -

Park, the Nav-Back issue was at this site - ClassicCar.com - and the web admin did have it fixed at one point - I think it's more to do with the rotating ads and 1 has crept back into the mix.
It sounds like you are losing your cookie reference that gets written to your machine from the web browser when you log in and select the "remember me" option.
What web browser and operating system are you using?0 -
Dan, there have been assertions that I'm losing my cookies, but I don't think those referred to the PC!
I'm using Windows XP Home Ed., and IE 7.0. The problem has been there since my first visits to the Forum, quite a long while back. It doesn't seem to exist with other web sites. Like everyone else, I experienced the Nav Back problem, too, but hadn't associated it with what was showing on the screen at the time.0 -

Some anti-virus/anti-spam programs will periodically clear the cookies out - xp may have this in their automatic settings - I run Windows server so am not intimately up on XP configurations out of the box.
The next time it happens you can go to the browser tools->internet options->temporary internet files section and look through the cookies you should find one that looks like this Cookie:xxxxxxxx@classiccar.com/ (the xxxxx's could be anything) if its missing or has expired that would be the problem.
Also cookies are written to the machine with a time out period, and maybe you just aren't visiting the site often enough and hitting the timeout0
