I don't know what's worse - the Chinese pawning their inferior garbage products and food on us - or the idiots who keep doing business with them...I sure hope my Doc Hudson doesn't have lead in it too!

Pixar Cars Sarge Lead Paint Hazard Recall
Mattel, in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is voluntarily recalling a limited number of the "Sarge" Die Cast toys from the Pixar Cars movie assortments. The affected toys were produced by one specific contract manufacturer during a narrow timeframe.
The recalled Sarge Cars were sold individually and in assortment packs in retail stores nationwide from May 2007 to August 2007. The Sarge character is a small die cast car measuring about three inches in length. The car is an army green color and features a white star on the hood. Surface paint on affected products contains lead in excess of permissible levels

I guess I'm ok - I don't have any kids in the house and I sure don't plan on eating my Pixar collection!!!
On the other hand there is the cat...................
Damn, how did we survive as kids (I'm talking 40's and 50's here!!!)
Hudsonly,

Thank god the Baby Boomers and those who came before them are immune to lead.
A warning to others: DON'T SUCK OR CHEW ON YOUR DOC HUDSON TOYS!0 -

Where was that advice yesterday? Time to call the Poison Control Center, Again.
Doesn't the lead make the toys more period correct
Do I have to give up all my Matchbox, Dinky, and Tonka toys too? I guess I'll have to if I can't stop licking them. I guess it's time to join DCTLA.

Matt and Dave,
I agree its time to stop putting my Cars toys in my mouth. I did so like chewing on my Luigi ....ah well I can just look at them. I am off outside to play lawn darts......0 -

Lawn darts is best at night. I recommend rounding up a second player so you can take turns manning the bullseye, it speeds the game up a bit.
I'd stop over, but I already lost one eye this week.0 -
What???!! First they take the lead out of our fuel, then they take it out of
all the good primer, and now out of our toys. Stop the madness...0 -
G'day all, long time no speak. I just watched the news here down under regarding the Mattel Toys. They say up to 49,000 Sarge cars to be recalled. I guess the Doc is safe for now from lead poisoning. My kids have the whole collection of the diecast Cars toys and have up to 30 different varieties at the moment and yet to get others. They are yet to find Doc with red wheels and the red Ferrari.

funny as you guys think this is, I just put the Sarge toy up from the little guy. Even though he didn't even play with it at all, and I think mine was bought before the date range, the risk alone isn't worth it.
Thank you Rambos for the heads up.0 -

Here's the heads up on the exact models of Sarge that are on RECALL!Description: The recall involves die cast “Sarge†2 ½ inch toy cars. The toy looks like a military jeep and measures about 2 ½ inches long by 1 inch high by 1 inch wide. The recalled toy has the markings “7EA†and “China†on the bottom. The “Sarge†toy car is sold alone or in a package of two, and may have the product number M1253 (for single cars) and K5925 (for cars sold as a set) printed on the packaging. The cars marked “Thailand†are not included in this recall.
I'm going to check my daughter's Sarge tonight. I hope I don't have to put it up, she really enjoys her Cars characters.0 -
Oh the laughs...:D Oh the drama...:(
People with small children who are living in old houses should worry more about the lead dust coming off of paint laden window sashes, doors and stair treads or any old painted surface subject to abrasion. Not to mention drinking water flowing through an old lead service pipe or leeching from lead solder on (and lead within) older copper pipes. What about lead pencils?0 -
Doesn't this just make them "lead sleds" ???0

How DID we survive without the Safety Nazis watching out for us???

You said it. How did so many people from the 1920's to the 1950's make it to adulthood and into old age? No worries about air pollution, asbestos, lead, mold, ozone, radon, seat belts, etc. Ah, those were the days. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for safety. However, a parent would be negligent and downright stupid to let their kids gnaw on plastic (petro-chemical) or painted objects? Even if you think something is safe, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that kids should not have foreign objects in their mouths that they can choke on. Bottom line, people with children need to take the time and make the effort to watch them. Then, Uncle Sam and the rest of the world won't have to.0 -
Just to clarify, I don't think lead paint on new kids toys is funny, and I would expect reponsible parents to take these toys from their kids.
I'm glad that they fessed up to a problem and recalled the toys. Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids out there who probably are allowed to walk around with their toys in their mouth, and arent required to wash their hands before eating. If my two year old had one of these, I probably would take it away from here. But as Dave mentioned, we try to be pretty strick about things in her mouth for the Choking hazard aspect (plus the Yuck factor). Lucky for me, she only has a Lightning and a Sally
However, if my 10 year old had one, I would inform her of the recall and let her make the choice. She hasn't licked a Die Cast Toy in years...
I think like in most cases, a little common sense goes a long way.
Thanks for the Alert Dan -

Yeah there's a lot of safety nazis out there. Don't get me wrong it's natural for a parent to want to want their kids to be safe but I remember playing with big tonka trucks with sharp sheet metal edges, made me tough, you get a few cuts and bruises you absorb the burning pain of mom droping iodine (which she somehow never ran out of) on the wound, put on a band-aid and go out and play again. All the games we played in the neighborhood were frankly kind of violent but the parents always knew where I was. Now they make kids wear a helmet when playing with a nerf football. Then wonder why they grow up and later have to be put into padded rooms. dag nabbit!!
The list of other enviromental pollutants the human body comes in contact with growing up probably boggles the mind! That big corporations continue to release stuff is nothing new. Thank god the human body is resiliant.

My little girl's Sarge Jeep was one of the leaded ones, so I stashed it away in the locked cabinet with my collectible cars....
It's probably safer than the toys I grew up playing with, but with today's sue happy society, I can understand why Mattel is recalling them.0 -
also, keep in mind, lead doesn't have to be injested thru the mouth, I think it can be easily absorbed thru the skin, as well.0
