Hudson Club at Hershey swap meet
Once again there will be several activities of interest to Hudsonites in and in a future message, but for right now we need to arrange some help for the Hudson recruitment / hospitality booth at the show. We need help for the period from Wed. Oct. 10 through Sat. Oct. 13.
Staffing the booth -- for 2 or 3 hours -- is a great way to meet fellow Hudson lovers from (literally!) around the world. And it's a great way to 'talk up' Hudsons to potential enthusiasts and win the Club new members. It's especially great for older Hudsonites who have enjoyed walking the flea market over the years, but who now find this to be increasingly difficult and tiresome. Now, they can have a ringside seat in the middle of the whole thing, and "Hershey comes to them". An occasional swing around the swap meet can be followed with R & R at the booth -- what an ideal situation. We can often provide transportation (in a Hudson, no less) right to the booth in the morning, and back to the motel in the evening. Such a deal!
And, if you have a really nice Hudson you'd be willing to show off, we'd like you to park it next to the booth to attract the curious. You get a pass (to drive into the swap meet), so this is not only a great way to get right where you're going, but to save parking fees as well! We'd like to display a different Hudson every day of the show. We'd give preference to unique Hudsons, particular Hudsons that haven't yet been displayed, and people who've never displayed their Hudsons before.
Finally, if you live anywhere near Dillsburg, Pa. and have a truck set up for towing, we need to get the trailer from its present resting spot, to Hershey, and back home again after the car show. If you can volunteer to drive it in either direction, we can offer some financial assistance to at least help pay for the gas you expend!
For further information or to volunteer, please contact me at HETdetailed@verizon.net (DROP THE HET before mailing, please!). Thank you.

How big is the trailer? I have a van that might be able to pull it depending on size and weight.
Would one be able to camp at/in the trailer for security (hotels ain't cheap)?
Once the full school calendar is posted, I will let you know if I can actually make it to man the booth.0 -

Octber 10-13 at Hershey with HET at Carlisle on Sunday.:)0 -
The trailer itself is about 14 ft. long including the tongue. To be honest, I'm don't think it's really applicable for "living" use...
By the way, hotels ain't cheap but if you're a cheapskate like so many of us Hudsonites, why not find a friend or two and share a room? It's amazing how much the cost comes down with you split it three ways! (Once, at Hershey, we got seven guys into one room. Was more like an Army barracks, but it sure was cheap! I won't mention the name of the motel though, for fear someone will turn us in and we'll never be welcome there again...)

Hey Jon,I did it for a couple of years and then you didn't want me too help anymore??.Could it be because of the guy I tackled and took 20.xx bucks and told him he could expect to get a magazine??or the guys that paid $20.00 just to get away from me??hhmmm, when do you want me to be in the booth?:D0

Naah, Dr. Doug, it wasn't for either reason (though you DID do a truly inspiring tackle!). It's because you sat down too hard on our swivel chair and broke it! (Remember???? That valuable chair. The one we had rescued from the dumpster!)0

I was gonna ask whether we could use "questionable"recruiting tactics, such as forcing people to join, or threatening people if they don't....
I would think that if their options were, join, or we break your kneecaps, perhaps there could be a swell in membership?0 -
How about offering some tee shirts...:rolleyes:0

I must say that the booth has come a long way since it was restored. Now being serious, sign me up for Thursday. You tell me what hrs..I think that it great that you guys have keep that available. It is always a good time sitting in the booth talking to people, and the cars that are always on display there. It's always fun to listen to people tell you about their Hudson experience and/or stories!!Looking forward to it-as always.DW0

Serious, "Doc"? You're being SERIOUS? LOL!
(OH! Cool! Thanks, Doctor Doug!!!)
I'll get back to you as our schedule fills in...
Dave, to be honest, we tried selling Hudson nick-nacks 4 or 5 years ago and it got to be a real hassle. And we really didn't manage to sell anything. Got the stuff on loan from the Club Store and had to ship a lot of it back, thus killing any profit we made. I do appreciate the idea, though, and we do need to make some money to pay back the ever-increasing cost of gasoline necessary to move that thing around!0 -

14 foot should be OK. What is the tongue weight? I am limited to a 6000/600 trailer.
If I can haul it, can I sleep in my van next to the trailer as the night watchman?0 -

Thanks, John, I'll put you down on the list and get back to you later!
Pacemaker, you would be most welcome to park your van next to the trailer at night but as soon as the 'next day's display Hudson' got there, I'm not sure where we could stash it! Let's give this some thought, maybe we can swing it. No matter what happens, I sure appreciate your willingness to help!0 -
(I'm shamelessly bumping this one up to the top, in the hope of harvesting another volunteer or two. Hey...it's all for the Hudson Good!)0
