7 Wire, 6 Volt, Turn Signal In My 29 Hudson

I added a second tail light with brake as original only on the passenger side. I also added turn signals on the front with a 7 wire turn signal unit on the steering colume. I have it all hooked up and it works. The problem is it flashes real fast. I have seen on a modern car that if a light bulb is burned out it does the same. All my lights work and I have checked grounds. Could I have a bad 6 volt flasher that is doing this ? If so does anyone know of a good 6 volt flasher girl..I mean sourse? :) Thanks, Ron

    Ron, have you used the correct 18-21W bulbs for the indicators? The flash rate is dependent upon the correct load. I did have a similar problem with one unit, even though it had the correct bulbs, and I was able to undo the crimping around the bottom of the can and tweak the tension of the bi-metal strip that determine the flash rate. However I would not recommend this procedure generally, as you have to determine which is the correct bit to tweak, and then crimp the whole thing back together. Good luck.

    Not enough current draw is your problem, this is what's causing the flasher to cycle so fast. The flasher is made similar to a auto-reset circuit breaker, slight current draw will make it cycle rather quickly. A large current draw will slow it down. What are you using for bulbs in the front lamps? if theye're dash lights #51 or 55 that's your problem. A # 63 bulb would be thee smallest to use and that might make it flash too quickly. Good luck.

    Thanks for the fix. Now when I order new 6 volt single filament bulbs what should I be looking and asking for? The fronts (Signal Only) ?? And back brake and turn single filament ? ? Thanks, Ron





    Also when I have it in the hazzard position (all 4 flashing) it does the same fast flashing. Would this be the same problem and fix ? Thought maybe with all 4 flashing would put enough current draw but guess not ?

    Single center contact 18 to 21 Watt for the signal and brake lights. SCC 6 W for the park and tail.

    7 wire uses both front and rear lights, lets see if I can remember.



    right front turn

    left front turn

    right rear stop/turn

    left rear stop/turn

    indicator light

    stop light input

    flasher input



    if you don't have all the front and rears hooked up that to will cause a fast flash. I think the bulb number is 1156 for the rear or 1158. one is for 12v the other for 6v. then as the other guys stated for the single contact lamps.

    Its Fixed !!!!!!! OK.....I hope. When I did the turn signal set up I got my stuff from a place that supplied the parts I needed. The 7 wire indicater and 6 volt flasher and plug in adapter. Well as you know I had a problem with it flashing FAST. I have installed a Tung-Sol NOS 6 volt flasher and all is working GREAT now (EBAY). Just some info. Ron
