Is there a source for new ring gears for a 54? Mine id OK but worn enough that I would just assume replace it since everything else will be new when I put it back together.\Thanks,

    Should have mentioned flywheel ring gear,forgot this could be mistaken for ring and pinion.

    I don't have a source, but the stand ard transmission flywheel ring gears are the same from 1934 through to 1954, excluding the '34 - '35 sixes.

    Try Lester Harris at (775) 267-2559. He may have what you want, plus other Hudson engine , chassis, and gasket parts.

    Should be 134 teeth.The 34-35 sixes I believe are 107.I think Northwest transmissions also have these.They advertise in Hemmings and other magazines.

    Well I thought the ring gear was replaceable. I have found out in all Hudson's wisdom it is all one, meaning if your ring gear is worn, you just throw the whole flywheel out. Not the smartest design in my opinion but it is what it is. Was going to convert to dry clutch, but it is a little more involved than I was ready for. I got enough going on with the engine. I am going to keep working on the dry clutch and flywheel with replaceable ring gear. I dislike this wet clutch setup more and more as I learn about it.

    I have never come across a non-replaceable ring gear, apart from very early teens and twenties models. In those cases you replace the ring gear by machining off the flywheel to the required size, which is a firly simple job ofr a machine shop. It is your option to do what you want with your car of course, but I would be interested as to your reasons for discarding the original set-up. The '55-'56 engines had a dry clutch, but it is not a direct bolt-on replacement for the ealier models.

    Like Geoff says, the ring gear is replaceable on the flywheel. No big deal. I have an extra for my Hudsons just in case. Love the smoothness of the wet clutch.

    According to Hudzilla they are not. Mine is currently at the balancer so I can't look myself. Maybe they were replaceable on the early cars?

    Drill a small hole between the teeth, and hit it with a chisel and it will break loose. No big deal!
