I'm in the process of going about for the first time adjusting the valves/tappets on the 232 engine of my Pacemaker. Anyone know if you need any special size wrenches to perform this job? Thanks for your response!

You need a regular 1/2 inch box wrench and you ought to have a thin 1/2 inch open end.

If you need lash specs and how to do a 1 rev adjustment, search this forum for valve adjust infol

Drop me an email @ NEChudsontech09@yahoo.com (drop the NEC) and I'll be happy to email you, in return, a copy of a bulletin Art Adams put in the WTN back in the 70's with the info you need.

  • Hey, thanks for the information regarding tools for the valve job. I don't have a "thin" 1/2" wrench, but I'll be getting one soon!
  • You will need 2 thin 1/2 open end wrenches and a 7/16 box or open to get the covers off.

Thin wrenches would be a little easier, but I've done it many times with two standard Craftsman or Snap On type 1/2" open ends.
  • I don't know if they still have them but Sears used to sell a tappet wrench set. Has all thin wrenches, made for adjusting the tapppets.

  • I was at Sears the other day and they still do have a Craftsman tappet wrench set with the flat type open end wrenches for $29.95.
