Off topic- New panel delivery
Has anyone seen these? I saw one at a dealer the other day and did a double take. Overpriced in my opinion, but probably one of the first GM products I would ever consider owning.

I've had quite a few HHR's as rentals, and I actually like them. 10 times better a car than a PT cruiser... They drive well and are not as cheap feeling as the other domestic cars I've driven lately.
I thought it was cool to see a panel delivery available.

I'll disagree with you on the PT comparison - we've owned two PTs (one sedan and a convertible), and I've rented twoo HHRs while away, and the PT is the hands-down winner over the HHR in nearly every aspect. Granted, the HHR does have a bit more room, but that's it. The PT is fast and quick, where the HHR is a slug.
Be that as it may, I think an HHR panel delivery would make a neat truck for a small delivery-type business. I like their appearance, but until they get some balls under the hood (and get less expensive!), I won't own one.0 -
I BOUGHT MY WIFE AN HHR A YEAR AGO, AND I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOUR COMPARISON, BRING YOUR pt AND DRAG RACE ME, ILL BLOW YOUR DOORS OF WITH THE HHRS 173 HORSEPOWER AND 30.8 mpg on a trip at speed. try getting that with a pt cruiser. BILL ALBRIGHT0

I agree with Bill and I've driven his wife's HHR. It's one hell of a nice car, fast ,comfortable and not bad looking, something that can't be said for the PART TIME cruiser! BTW, I've seen several of the panel HHR's over the past several months, kinda cute.0

It's a teenage boy's dream bedroom on wheels.0

My wife loves her HHR. Its very nice driver, and looks cool!
As soon as the new 2008 HHR "SS"comes out she wants one!
She is the controller at a Chevrolet dealership and can have whatever she wants for a demo. She likes the HHR even better than the SSR she had.

My experience is also that the HHR is much quicker and better handling than the PT. I always likes the PT till I drove one. I probably wont buy either, so it doesn't matter too much to me anyway. I typically prefer Chysler over GM, but in this case GM executed better.
Either way, I like the retro movement that's happening with the these cars.0 -
PT Cruiser Turbo - 220 hp, stock and out the door! I'll race any of you guys with an HHR. Bring your titles! And a way home!
Only 173 hp, Bill??? Sheesh!0 -
While both the the PT and the HHR appeal to basically the same small car retro market, I think if you research the sales volume, GM was scooped again by there poor timing and offerings. Chrysler got the PT out quickly and produced a solid and affordable small car with great retro styling. GM on the other hand, came out with the SSR which was also neat, but sort of useless as a truck, and was priced in the low 40's. They quickly installed the corvette engine, and the dealers couldn't sell the 5.3's. The corvette engined SSR was priced near a corvette, and few sold. Chevy then brought out the HHR which is neat, although I personally don't think the grille looks like a 50 Chevy truck. GM continues to be late responding to the market. I doubt if GM management feels the HHR comes anywhere near the success that the PT enjoyed. I have never driven an HHR, or a PT turbo, But was one of the first with a PT Cruiser Limited. I had it almost three years and traded it with 28000 miles on it. I thought it was solid and troublefree, handled great with the 4 wheel discs and 16" tires. Easy to get into with the large doors. On the negative side, I thought it was short on power (Automatic) and the Mileage was 19-20 with trips in the 25-26 range.0

Hudsonkid has a cruiser. Maybe it's time for a "POLL"0

Both are high on the 'cute' factor, but I wouldn't want either of them. NOW, if we were talking about the 2008 Challenger or 2009 Chevy Camaro...
As far as speed/fast goes - Who buy's these things (PT Cruiser or HHR) to go fast (?), especially with a 4 cyl engine in them? Would be about as exciting/interesting as watching a turd shoot out of my dog's butt - Nothing there I'd want to see - unless the mutt swallowed my car keys...
I gotta agree with you Rick. I think that they are cute but if I wanted power and performance, I would look elsewhere. Gas mileage and performance don't seem to go hand and hand very often. At Doc's meet last May, I drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. It belonged to fellow HET member Don Phillips. My wife was 7 months pregnant at the time. I hammered that thing down and it took off like a ROCKET! My wife told me that if I did it again she was going to have the baby right there. I probably shouldn't have done that with her in the Jeep, but I couldn't resist temptation.0 -
No single vehicle is good for all purposes. That's why just about everyone that posts here owns many vehicles, including many hudsons!0

Still have the 37 reupholstered front bench seat from my 37 sedan for sale. It also has the rechromed passenger grab bar attached to the rear of the seat back which I will sell separately if necessary. It is just a shame to let this seat sit up in my garage & deteriorate so make an offer. Cliff Minard 570-746-9049 or e-mail at min1909@epix.net0

Excuse me? You have obviously NEVER driven or ridden in a GT Turbo 5-speed PT Cruiser, of which I owned an '03 for three years! It has no fuel cutoff,so the top speed is as fast as you dare go! My speedometer read 140, and the needle was at 136 before I decided to slow it down, and there was pedal left at that speed!
Like I said, bring on the HHR challengers. I'm pretty dang sure NONE of them will do that without mods!0 -
Patrick's enthusiasm for PT's is similar to other people that I know that own those little wagons - they love them, and can't understand why you don't have one too. ( Us Hudson Jet owners feel the same way about our cars too)
Chrysler's problem is that they have had the same basic design since their introduction in 2001. I know people that are on their 3rd PT Cruiser, but not everyone wants to spend big bucks on a new car that is exactly like your old one. That's why Chebbie makes the HHR, to steal away existing PT Cruiser customers.0 -

I agree with everything said above.
I like the HHR Panel because of good MPG, decent performance, and more cargo room than my other options. (I like the panel version better than the sedan). I think that the PT cruisers really need a fresh design. I think "Lebaron" everytime I see one. They had Turbos too, and I still dont like them. No doubt, the retro cars have been successful.
The Rental variety of each that I've driven are semi-loaded non-turbo average sedans with base drivetrain. In that form, the HHR was superior IMHO.
Back to Hudsons...
I'll take a Hudson panel to either; worse MPG, power nothing, and last place at every drag raceProbably more expensive to buy also.

The styling changed on the PT in the '06 model year, actually quite a bit changed! All-new dash layout, door panels, taillights, headlights, entire front fascia & sheetmetal were all restyled!
Chrysler has hinted that the PT will not return after the '09 model year, but plenty of us PT fans are after Chrysler to keep it around. It is still a very decent seller for the company, and it's holding its' own after eight model years (soon to be nine) --- kinda like the Stepdowns did, from '48-'54, which was eight model years, as well!
Another thing I like about my PT is that it looks a LOT like my '37 Terraplane two-door! Look at the two from the full rear, rear quarter view, and fron quarter view. The similarities are amazing!
2003 vs. 2006 comparison - my old '03 PT GT Turbo and the '06 Limited ragtop the day we got the car.

My '37 Terraplane for comparison. The rear view is a LOT closer in appearance! Yeah, I know it's not exactly the same, but there are many similarities, IMO0 -
Patrick, I Was Comparing The Base Model Hhr With The Base Model Pt, Not The Top Of The Line Pt, Which You Pay Dearly For, Nuff Said0
-
Ahhhh, so we don't want to race now, huh? I'd still run a base PT against a base HHR...'nuff said!0
