According to Richard M. Langworth's book, Hudson 1946-1957, Hudson started experimenting with dual carbs in 1937 and had them on the shelves since 1944.0

I DOUBT IF ANYONE WHO WOULD HAVE WORKED ON SUCH A PROJECT IS ALIVE TODAY. HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING IN PRINT ON THIS SUBJECT, BUT DONT RULE IT OUT.. YOUR fACTS ARE NOT ALL CORRECT AS THE TWIN H WAS AVAILABLE ON 52 MODELS NOT FIRST IN 53. sbill albright0

thanks everyone, how about this. oldsmobile made a viking v-8 in their 1929/1930 cars ??? i allways thought ford had the first v-8 in 1932 ? then i found that the 1923 peerless made a model 66 with a v-8 that had a pneumatic pump that you could start and put air in the tires on the car? this is not hudson, but find this interesting history. thanks. dermott.0

Llangworths Book Refers To A Dual Barrel Carb, Meaning One Two Barrel Car As All Prvious Hudsons Had Only One Barrels Carbs. He Meant One Two Barrel Not Two Carbs, Bill A.0

Not positive on the year but I think it was 1919 Chevrolet had a v-8 of 282 (i think) cubic inches. Trouble was that the engine had a cast in place head! You had to pull the entire crank assembly if you burnt a valve and had to replace it. Needless to say it did not last. Next chevy v-8 was the 265 in '55.

Wikipedia says Rolls Royce had a V8 in 1905, De Dion in 1910, and Cadillac in 1914.
Hudson's first dual-throat carb was in 1937 (I should know; my '37 has one!). Whether they were the first to introduce that feature, is another matter.0 -

No, the book says "dual carburetors."0 -
Yes Hudson experimented with Dual carbs as in two carbs on the sixes in the mid 30's I have pics somewhere I will dig out and post. The term Twin H was first used in 50's to denote the Twin carb setup. In the 30's it was called twin carbs. No H.0

I have seen a '32 or '33 Nash Ambassador twin ignition OHV straight eight with 2 carbs! Looks like an early Twin H!0

Buick had some dual carb models with thier straight eight, somewhere 'bout '42. I was just a pup.0

1917 Chevrolet Series D Engine - 1917 saw the production of the first Chevrolet V8, a 288 cid overhead valve motor rated at 36 net horsepower. A total of approximately 3000 Chevrolet V8 motors were made between 1917 and 1919.
Great trivia question to win a few beers with!!!

Thanks Al...I knew it was some where around there. It's been 30 years since I read about that engine and some of the details are a little fuzzy.
Are you coming to Pigeon Forge next month? It would be good to see you again.

Earliest V8 I've seen is a 1915 Cadillac with a 5 or 6 liter V8 & a body that looked as if it ought to be horse-drawn with center steering. This was at our Art Deco Meet in Feb 07 in New Zealand. I prob have a photo if anyone is interested.0

Also lots of medium duty and probably heavy duty trucks with gas engines had two carburettor intakes in the 30s and maybe 40s. Dodge comes to mind as an example, easy way to gain 15 or so more H.P.0

Met a guy in Long Beach Calif. last week that has a 1927 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo. with a flat head V8 and a updraft carb. Its a very nice original and fancy car.0 -
Interesting history of Buick dual carburators:

Of course the Twin-H still rules, right?
