Essex Ring gear
The ring gear on the flywheel of my '28 Essex has come loose & now rotates independently. The car is over a good pit with great access. I'd prefer not to have to remove the flywheel. Is there any good reason why we shouldn't heat the ring gear & fit it to the flywheel on the engine? Gearbox is out & floorboards are removed.

I've done that, don't remember for sure but think I used nirod. a nickel alloy A good welding supply can tell you what to use depending on what metals involved. Also you can enter ALCAM in your browser , they make rods for such a purpose, there are other brands as well so check with your local supplier. I would recomend a SMALL size rod, tack it first in a few places then do the actual weld so it won't pull away from your alignment0

Thanks for the suggestions. I took the easy road & removed the flywheel, NOS ring gear fell on after a little heat. Being over a pit, reassembly of clutch & gearbox installation was done inside 2 hours.0
