$29 Electric Wipers!
FYI
Recently I have noticed inquiries for electric wiper conversions for Hudson so I thought I would mention that my first Hudson Rod I bought an expensive Wiper Kit that works fine but required some fabricating to fit and since I rarely drove in the rain I thought I would try fabricating an inexpensive wiper system for my Terraplane and spend the money elsewhere.
So I installed a JC Whitney electric motor in my '37 Terraplane using the original switch with a pc of 1/8 weld wire to pull up & down the electric switch knob for on/off and suprised how easy it was to install with simple hand tools and how nice it Works.....
Currently, I am installing another JC Whitney motor in my '47 Hudson Trk by using a 5.5" pc of 1x1x1/8 angle drilled to the same dimension as the vacume motor but added a short pc of strap at each end to space motor out toward the seat a little to clear the rear switch (knob) in the 'cowl pocket'. (Although one could simply remove the rear knobs single screw then not space back) However I chose to leave the knob & hot wire into a new dash mounted Switch.
I ordered the shortest shaft motor but still had to cut more off by carefully sawing around the mounting threaded stud (one could use a tubing cutter) then I sawed the inner shaft shorter then threaded 1/4x28. I ground off the orginal linkage 'Arm from the vacume mtr, drilled and tapped 1/4x28, screwed locktighted with an external nut onto the electric motor.
{This may sound like a lot of work but wasnt taking less than a couple hrs with a few pcs of scrap metal}...
The Motor has only One speed similar to 'Medium' speed on conventional Cars and the only drawback is 'toggling' to park the wipers. However, one could wire through a 'Delay Switch' for another $20 then have intermediate wipe action and possibly park...
Its economical, EZ, fits into the Hudson Pocket, and works both Wipers 90 degrees. If you would like a picture of bracket/installation e-mail me since I havent caught on to posting Pic's yet. cv.cars@verizon.net. I have not tried fitting a motor to a Step Down yet....
Additionally JC Lists a '6V MOTOR' that looks Identical under Chevy Car Wiper for little more money ......
Just something to consider ....
